NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Not so fast my friend! MSU did split the Lakers in the Soo this year. And split with BGSU with a win Saturday. I'm feeling good about our first winning streak of the season coming tonight!

Nevermind...

This team just plays uninspired hockey until they score a goal. Unfortunately they went down 3-0 before putting one on the board.

I'm more worried that they thought that play stopped at 7:30 of the 2nd to review the goal/no goal for NMU... They seemed to have no idea that there was a penalty call on Sparty... Then again, it's hard to see a ref's arm raised in East Lansing from Chicago...

Wait... they are calling the game and not actually there?

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Am sure it is for the weekend. Teams are only allowed to bring so many players on the road, league or ncaa rule not sure which. I think they are only allowed 22 on the road (20 players, 2 extras)

I think that is a league rule. Teams can bring more extra players on the road for a non-conference series.

Yep. They watch the game like you and I, only they're getting paid to talk about what they're seeing on TV and you're not.

Saves on them paying for travel for two more people and the labor of wiring up the press box when all you need are three cameras/camera men and an uplink truck.

At least this year, they got our name right. We are NOT UNM.

They did that one year for a MN @ UAA series. The differences in how they call the game are amazing.

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

It was a very disappointing Al Borland Appreciation Night at Munn.

Northern always brings the absolute worst out of MSU. (And that's saying something, considering how this season has gone.)

You can bring the whole roster if you want. But you can only dress 18 skaters and two goalies. The home team can dress a third keeper. Most teams travel with 22, sometimes 23.

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Happy Wildcat Night Across America kids

Hope we can see the same Cats that came out for the first half of Friday's game... They seemed to get knocked back on their heels once Sparty got that first goal... Until that point they were very solid... Also need to work on creating opportunities on the PP... Twice last night we went the entire PP without a SOG...

Yes, I believe you are correct, thank you. For conference series, they used to have to submit a travel roster for eligible players to the league before they left, don't know if that is the case anymore or not.

I'm rooting for Northern.
Would love to see UM and Sparty leave the CCHA in style by finishing in the cellar.

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Wildcats are coming off an ugly loss to Michigan Tech on Tuesday...
Sparty split with BGSU in their last outing...

Both games will be on TV this weekend... Tonight's game will be on Big Ten Network... Tomorrow is Hockey Day in Michigan and Wildcat Night Across America... Game can be found on Fox Sports Detroit...

Just going to come out and say it... This is a MUST SWEEP for the Cats... No room for error from here on out...

Does anyone know what channel Fox Sports Detroit is for Dish Network? I can never seem to find this channel on Dish anymore. I get Fox Sports North and that's it... or so it seems.

Let time I used it the channel number was 430. It may have changed though.

Thanks. I figured it out. I only get FSN North because I live in Wisconsin. Adding the Multi-Sport pack gets me all the FSN Regionals according to this link:

I just added it for $9.00. Here is hoping. ****ty part is my current package gets me all the sports channels EXCEPT the FSN regionals. Jerks.

Clarification on the travel rosters: 22 players, although there are some minor exemptions. The limit does not apply to non-conference games or games during a school break.

Odd, although I've found that it differs if you have satellite or cable. I don't get NESN with my sports pack, but a buddy doesn't get NBCSports (nee Vs).

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

This is funny... On Dish, channel 430 HD says Michigan vs Michigan State. Channel 430 SD says NMU vs Michigan State.

Once again... someone gets our name wrong!

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

Gotta hand it to Michigan State tonight; they came out inspired, as if their effort in the 3rd last night carried over into tonight. Thanks to Coreau, we're lucky this game didn't end up 7-2.

And aparch, davyd, someone who keeps track of this stuff: has NMU won on Wildcat Night Across the Country in the past 6 years?

Re: NMU at MSU: Battle for the Basement

At the last minute, I went to the game solo last night. Although the result wasn't what we 'Cat fans would have liked, it was a fairly good, close game especially given that we were without three of our d-men for the weekend.

There was a small contingent of NMU fans there, and what was nice to see and hear was a group of guys sending out some cheers for Northern from one corner of the arena on a few occasions. I sat across the aisle from a couple of Michigan Tech fans and a couple of Lake State fans all of whom were cheering on the Wildcats! Too bad we all couldn't have sustained those cheers after the final whistle. Unfortunately, we couldn't hold on to the lead. As ShirtlessBob said, if it wasn't for Coreau it would have been a lot worse.

Well, it's back downstate and into Ohio for the series against BG next weekend. Hope the guys can rebound. Go 'Cats!
