NMU at Minnesota State December 6 and 7

I was happy with the progress that I saw this weekend. I truly think we're going to see MSU go on a pretty big run. I see a sweep for MSU or at worst 3 points. I know little (OK, nothing) about N. Michigan, but I saw some very good things out of the Mavs this last weekend. Clean up a few more of the defensive miscues and this will be the team that everyone expected them to be.

So you know nothing about the opponent, yet predict a minimum of 3 points. The offenses are equal. NMU allow 1/2 less per game. Special teams are about equal. Bold prediction.

Perhaps looking at trends rather than averages would be more meaningful. MSU couldn't score to save their life for the first few weeks, and they've seemingly turned that around now.

Since when did predicting 3 points become bold? You are looking at two teams with similar records, but MSU is 5-1 at home and NMU is 2-4-1 on the road. Thinking NMU will get a point seems like a bigger stretch.

That's exactly it. I can't look at the other teams simply because of the newness of the league. The only thing I can personally look at is MSU and the way that they have played in the last 2-3 weeks. It's been pretty obvious that the talent level of MSU has been better than many of the teams that we've been playing. The reality is, though, that talent alone doesn't win. Hard work is still what's going to win games. In the past few, MSU has been using the talent and has looked much more like that team that was nearly unanimously chosen to win the league.

Ahhh...trends...like NMU allowing only 13 goals in its last 7? Or 2-1-1 in its last 4 on the road?

2 shutouts of Huntsville and 2 road wins over a crappy Western Michigan team and you're expecting a lot of credit? I think NMU is a good team and this should be a fun series, but I don't see anything in their trends that would make them the favorite this weekend.

Per Matt Wellens twitter, captain C.J. Ludwig is out for the year. An MRI this morning on his knee confirmed the severity. Anyone who had a chance to see him play this year could see he was first team all league caliber. A HUGE loss for the Cats. The "next man up" saying applies here but you don't replace Luddy.

Adjusting to life without him will take time. I predict a Maverick sweep.

I'm assuming this is too late in the year for a Medical Redshirt?

Genuinely sorry to hear that. I never wish injuries on anybody.

It's a good thing you guys are from a part of the country where extreme winter weather is nothing new, because it's going to be a cold mutha tomorrow night.

Welcome Davyd. Plenty of decent restaurants close to the Civic Center for dinner before the game. I'll be at the Loose Moose.

Word... I know a lot of the season lies ahead, but winning early can really help on the back side of the schedule...
