Well, it saves MnSCU a few bucks too, but yeah pretty dam stupid. Doubt the voters of NC care what Minnesota does regarding their laws.

Wanna bet? North Carolina is losing business in droves right now. While I do think the baseball teams should be able to go there the ban imposed by other states is costing North Carolina tons of money right now.

Re: Nice Planet XI: Stop the World, I Want to Get Off!

You get the feeling that, in the next few years, we're going to see another War Between the States?

No. The states are completely dependent on federal smack -- the whiner states most of all. State sovereignty was repealed by the 20th Century.

The thing is, the ban was put into place by MnSCU and not the MN Board of Regents, so it's a policy in place for D-II and D-III programs, with exception to hockey at three schools. This is purely symbolic, and nothing material was ever going to come of it.

No but I get the feeling we are a close to a War Between The Voices in Flaggy's Head :D

(still waiting for you to admit you were completely off the reservation about Jade Helm)

Which makes it even better. It's always nice to be able to protest human rights abuses without actually having to pay any price. :)

Aren't there a couple of MnSCU baseball teams like Mankato or SCSU or UMD who will be prevented from playing in their national tournament, were they to qualify?

A lot of people would argue that it's very simple, and weak kneed to force an issue if you have no skin in the game. It's going to come down to a simple matter of perspective on this one.

I have no idea. I couldn't even tell you the name of the D-II conference to which my school belongs. That said, even if my school were to drop out of the national tournament, it'd probably be a money winning decision for the school as D-II isn't likely to turn a profit - meaningful or otherwise.

And I'm sure the kids are going to love hearing they have to forfeit because some bureaucrat has his thumb up his rear about another state's legislation about something that has nothing to do with the sport.

So you're saying you want to pull a Ronald Reagan and start going after federal funding? Wouldn't that mean you'd be doing something that "conservative hero" would do?

In central region SCSU is ranked #1 and UMD #3 in DII. Both had decent chance to get to national tourney, not now.

I'm saying there won't be a war between the states because no state can afford it anymore. So many functions are federal now if a state wanted to secede it would instantly bankrupt itself by assuming all those liabilities that they currently fob off on the federal government.

That's one of the best hypocrisies of state pols who rant and rave about federal spending. If it wasn't for federal spending they would have to do the heavy lifting and revenue collection at the state level, and that would make them unpopular. Now they have their cake and whine about it too.

UMD is under the Board of Regents, not MnSCU. MnSCU only impacts those public schools with word "State" in their names. UMD is a satellite location for the U of M system. All maroon & gold schools in the state are governed by the MN Board of Regents system.

I knew that. Brain fart when I posted the UMD rating.:o

MSUM is #6 in region.

That's even better. So Duluth gets to go (if they qualify), but SCSU or Mankato don't? Classic.

Woman at Walmart berates man for using food stamps.

Not sure why such a smart woman with a degree is surprised someone is using food stamps at Walmart. I assume she will be opting out of her social security because she does not believe in taking the taxpayer's money.

I also assume she will never use her car/home/health insurance if something happens to her too, because for all she knows he has been paying into the system for years, the system which everyone as a whole pays into for those who fall on hard times.
