Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

I always thought it referenced cis and trans orientations of molecules

Brother derivation from the same Latin root.

You could call the inside and outside faces of a door or walls of a house cis and trans if you wanted. It's as common a distinction as left/right or top/bottom. It's not magical. The Apollo astronauts landed on the cis side of the moon, Pink Floyd sang about the trans side.

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

Clever. Makes sense. I knew Transylvania means "other side of the forest." Forgot about Gaul. Never think about molecules, that's the wife's job.

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

However, there are times when I call cis people "cisgender" and they're like "what the hell did you just call me?"

Cis is like "flesh colored." People are so used to it being the default, even though it shouldn't be, that they get confused when you have a name for it. For them it was always just the air they breathed.

I remember my parents had the exact same reaction to "straight." They were essentially, "we don't need a name for what we are -- we're NORMAL!"

Dr. Mrs. tells a great story about a white student in one of her classes having a lightbulb moment and saying "wow -- I have a color, too!" That's what's going on with cis people right now and the Usual Suspects are a-scurred.

I thought we killed this topic yesterday, but since Fish wants to keep it going... would someone make popcorn and uncork my Moscato? I will enjoy watching him dig a hole from which he can't escape.

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

That might be the most hilarious post I have read in quite some time. Here? MAGA? lololololol

Wait...Kepler is MAGA? I thought it was hilarious when trix called me a Centrist but the only way Kepler could ever be a MAGAyte is if he went so far left he went completely around and ended up on the other side :D

I also find it funny how much Fishing is projecting.

You guys need some reading comprehension lessons. Fish likened the intolerance of other points of view as being MAGA-like, not the actual intent of policies being discussed. It seemed pretty clear to me.

It was very clear.

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

I got what he meant but it makes zero sense so I can see why they might've been unclear.

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

Fish's logical fallacy is that intolerance of the intolerant, constitutes one's own equivalently dangerous intolerance. Therefore, we have to have a more centrist "understanding" of LGBT-phobes and people like him who apparently feel the need to escort their granddaughters to the unisex toilet with a loaded firearm.

Poppycock. There's a reason why you can't fly a Swastika flag and run around singing Horst-Wessel-Lied in Germany, and it's a d@mn good one.

Oh wait, I just Godwin'd. Whatever.

Would you do me a favor and take the cork out of my Moscato so I can watch him drown?

No I dont...I purposefully misinterpreted it and ran with it because it made me smile. I wanted everyone to have an image of Some 50+ year old guy in Tweed using big words, telling us how flyover country sucks whilst wearing a MAGA hat like I did :D

You couldn't have thrown in "humming Far Above Cayuga's Waters" to top it all off?

Re: Nice Planet: Screw It, I'm Outta Here

For what it’s worth (nothing) he didn’t accuse Kep of actually being MAGA. He’s saying that in some ways Kep is as bad as a MAGA idiot

Thanks for actually reading it, Bass.

I didn't call Kepler an "idiot", but I did accuse him of being yet another bully on this echo-chamber of a thread, while not even considering the fact that rural Republicans have genuine complaints about being ignored as "rubes".

I do live in a back-water that went 61% for the dope-in-chief, yet I know very few locals who sound as intolerant or as hateful as does much of the vitriol on here. Picking nits -on either side of the aisle- is just further dividing our society, and that's the last thing we need right now.

We have huge issues to deal with (climate change, income-inequality, Iran, election-meddling, etc.) Yet, both fringes of the political spectrum seem content to snipe from afar, just to score a few cheap points here or there.

FWIW, my favorite candidate is Pete B. Eminent qualifications, and a (nearly) perfect mind. But I doubt that he's electable at this point. Next time around, his chances should be much better. The job right now is to unseat Trump, and that's really all there is to it.

Not a big fan of wishy-washy Biden, but he's easily the best hope right now.

I suspect we won't be hearing more from him in this thread. He already bluffed on an offsuit 2/7 waiting for the river card, and got called on it.

Funny enough, I'm getting back into poker (it's a free app, but people seem to actually play serious, which is all I want).
