Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Got it. My wife was a hostess at a restaurant in Sedona the summer she was 18. Her stories about terrible customers are funny, but her stories about what happens in the staff soap operas are amazing.

I don't really understand why people try to hide the name of the restaurant in their stories, especially when many of them are stories from years ago and the author no longer works there, but I love how it's become a game to make it as obvious as possible. My personal favorite was one who wrote, "I worked at a chain that rhymes with crapplebees" and even the author added a note in the story that said "Seriously? Come on!"

No, not that. Wooshed because I thought you were talking about something else.

The super-prestigious (in)famous secret USCHO board that started because some here got all cranky about something meaningless?

Actually it was about the Board going apesh* at the time, banning and suspending a ton of people (including yours truly) for things that actually were allowed (or somewhat allowed) at the time.

My "offense" was posting a picture. The rule was no posting pics from other sites. Reason? That's stealing bandwidth (or something like that). However, I used a picture where the URL was actually from USCHO's domain/address/etc. So I was just re-using bandwidth.

After pointing this out, my suspension was cut in half. And yes, it was the infamous "Pancakes On MEg's Head" picture. :)

Probably for reasons of either free advertising or slander.

Or you could have been like boot_walt_kyle and put a hidden looping embedded sound file into your signature.

I'm still surprised that RPI has yet to create a new forum where the admin can put a big smile on his face knowing he's banned me. :p

Back in the day of mobster wars in NYC, the restaurant were the local Mafioso got whacked WANTED its name in the newspapers. It was good for publicity and business would pick up for a few weeks afterwards.

The public reasoned that the food had to be good there if the Mafioso dined there.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

That was one of Board's dumber moments. Now, I wouldn't say he abused his powers on the righty posters like many expected, but for as immature as he acted at times, he had no business being mod.

To be fair, Board did seem a bit desperate for moderators, given they were advertising the position on the forums as paid.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

Well, looks like Bernie finally got a case of the stupids. "I attended the IHAD speech!" is about a quarter-step above, "I have black friends" in the pantheon of out-of-touch statements on modern race relations.

To be fair people should be using photo hosting sites for that very reason. If it's a USCHO pic that is a bit different but that might slow things down on here (not really sure how that works).
