Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

How dumb are these morons to do this while being taped?

But hey they have a tough job, whats a little police brutality...

Planting the coke is a nice touch. I wonder how many people are in stir right now because of faked evidence.

Re: Nice Planet IX: Oh that's just GREAT...

I dunno. I have a good imagination.

What do you think domestic terrorist departments do with the drugs that they find? They sure as heck don't burn it all, what with the amount of money that could be generated with it.

Drugs that formally enter the criminal justice system have an evidence audit trail. It's more likely that PDs confiscate drugs, don't ever write them up, and then use them to plant, sell, or consume. How many incarcerations for drug convictions are there a year? Looks like about 10,000. How many of those convictions are obtained by planting evidence? Unknown -- you'd have to run an FBI sting operation on the local PDs, mark the drugs, and see how often those marked drugs wind up in the accused's "possession."

Probably happens more often in states with private prisons that demand quotas for prisoners and "mandatory minimums".

Have you been watching John Oliver? He did a great piece last week on how PDs subcontract payment plans for people who can't pay fines to private companies that then bleed those people dry; they wind up in the equivalent of debtors' prisons. And the financing of the contractors is borne by the debtor. Basically, a way to turn the poor's indigence into perpetual debt slavery to both the PD and the private company.

Edit: here is the piece.
