Can anyone tell me what is wrong with a tie in an evenly played game, vs an arbitrary win/loss????

Absolutely nothing. NCAA recognizes this as a tie, so Ralph gets credit for a tie.
But the NHL and the NCAA want to see a winner, hence the shootout.
finally, when did Hotson score in the shootout? I was at the game and once NU scored the second goal, the game was over.

He didn’t, considering he was in street clothes after getting a game misconduct at the end of the 2nd.
