NIAGARA: The Niagara women’s hockey team got back into the win column this past weekend with a sweep of RPI, defeating the Engineers by scores of 5-4 and 3-2…Kristen Richards scored on a penalty shot in overtime to push Niagara past the Engineers on Friday, while three unanswered goals and the strong play of freshman goalie Abby Ryplanski in her first career start pushed Niagara to a 3-2 Saturday afternoon win…Niagara is now 2-4-0 with the win…Junior Jenna Hendrikx leads the team with four goals, three assists and seven points, while Jessica Hitchcock (3-3-6) and Kelsey Welch (2-4-6) are right behind…Niagara hosts Saint Lawrence on a rare Tuesday night tilt before hitting the road, taking on Yale and Princeton…Niagara is now 2-0-0 against ECAC foes this year, while 0-4 against Hockey East foes…The Purple Eagles are now 2-2-0 in Dwyer Arena…Niagara has two wins, with two different game-winning goal scorers (Richards and Welch)…As of Saturday afternoon, Niagara is tied for the 6th longest unbeaten streak in the nation at two games…Head coach Josh Sciba picked up his first two career wins this weekend, while both goalies who played (Sarah Moses on Friday and Abby Ryplanski) picked up their first career wins.

Jessica Hitchcock, Niagara (Sophomore, Foward, LaSalle, Ontario)- Hitchcock led the Purple Eagles this past weekend with a goal, two assists and three points as Niagara swept visiting RPI by scores of 5-4 and 3-2. Hitchcock scored a goal and an assist during Friday’s 5-4 victory, with her goal coming on the man-advantage. On Saturday, Hitchcock got Niagara going, as she earned an assist on Niagara’s first goal of the game, helping Niagara rally from a 2-0 deficit for a 3-2 win.
Abby Ryplanski, Niagara (Freshman, Goaltender, Winnipeg, MB)- Ryplanski made her first career start as a Purple Eagle on Saturday, shutting the door on the Engineers by a final score of 3-2. The rookie made 22 saves to shut the door, finishing with a 2.00 goals against average and a .917 save percentage.
