NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

I don't have a rooting interest in the Chicago-L.A. series. The Kings are an enigma to me. I realize they are the defending Stanley Cup champions. When they lost the first two games of this series against the BlackHawks I thought the Kings were a hunk of proverbial "dead meat." Between Quick playing so well in net and Justin Williams and Slava Voynov scoring every other shift the Kings continue to impress me. Each time the outlook appears dim for them the Kings storm back. Win or lose in this series the Kings are a solid team.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

If Chicago and Boston close out their series in 5 games (or less) the Stanley Cup Finals would begin next Wednesday in Chicago. If either the Kings or Penguins extend their series the Stanley Cup Finals would begin Saturday, June 15 at the highest remaining seed (Chicago, Pittsburgh or Boston in order). If they start early and follow the schedule of previous rounds, that means

Game 1: Wednesday, June 12 in Chicago
Game 2: Friday, June 14 in Chicago
Game 3: Sunday, June 16 in Boston
Game 4: Tuesday, June 18 in Boston
Game 5: Thursday, June 20 in Chicago*
Game 6: Saturday June 22 in Boston*
Game 7: Monday, June 24 in Chicago*

That would be an excellent schedule as the US Women's National Team plays soccer Saturday, June 15 at Gillette and I have tickets. I could stay in Boston for the weekend and go to Game 3 at the Garden. Sorry Kings, I'm a Hawks fan now :)

Great win.

Going home to hopefully finish it.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Need Game 5. Last thing they need is to have to head back to LA.

I hope I don't have to eat these words, but...

LA is either out of gas or just has no answer for the Hawks. If the Hawks bother to show on Tuesday, this series is probably over.

Even with the no-show, the Hawks had a chance into the last minute to tie it up.

Unless something drastic happens, this series is over.

I'd agree. LA basically had to steal one in CHI, and continue their improbable undefeated home streak to win the series. That's a tough task. Now they have to win TWO in CHI? Yeah, okay. Next?

I'd tend to agree with you, but the fact that the Quick is in net means he can steal a game or two. The Hawks got a timely momentum changing goal Tueaday, or that thing was long over.

Anyone have the CBC intro for tonight's game? It looked cool, but I was doing work stuff so they had the volume down.

No doubt about Tuesday. We deserved to lose that game by 3 or 4, but we didn't because L.A. couldn't make it happen.

That's my point. Not that we did well on Tuesday, but as bad as we were - and we were as bad as I've seen this team this season having missed maybe 2 or 3 games - we still were in it with a puncher's chance at the end.

The Hawks are just better than the Kings right now.

I agree that was one of their worst performances. I was able to watch most of their games via gamecenter as well.

I think the Hawks speed is just killing the Kings. It's helping them eliminate giving up odd man rushes and it allows them to play awesome team defense.

Welp, looks like the Blackhawks will be the 2013 Stanley Cup champs.

Un-******ing-believable.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

For some reason, I've always had a visceral reaction against teams from cities where water never freezes into ice during the winter winning the Stanley Cup. I've always had it in the back of my mind that cities that host pro hockey teams should also be cities where you can find a frozen pond or stream in January or February and strap on your skates. I know you can always play roller hockey in Tampa or Carolina or LA, but ice hockey in places where the only place you can find ice is in your freezer? It somehow seemed sacrilegious to me.
