From what I had heard out here he didn't have the choice (I didn't pay much attention to it after it actually happened). After doing some digging, yes, it appears he had a choice. My apologies, I was wrong.

So: Visors grandfathered in to the NHL. Shallower nets next season (To increase #TheHittingZone (c) DGB), and hybrid icing to be used in preseason, possibly in effect next season. All subject to board approval.
