Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Well, I can't see DET winning the next game. Helluva run, though.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

But of course they just HAD to score an irrelevant third goal to make the PS the game-winner, so that my Facebook feed has now exploded with posts about the refs screwing us.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

It's over and done. Good run, but the youth and inconsistency displayed during the first half of the regular season are now showing up in full stride in the past two games, no reason to think that won't continue.

Congrats Chicago on your pending series win, now go celebrate with a trip to Wisconsin to * a dead deer. :D

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Both guys on the post game said so too.

I disagreed with the PS due to the "impeding a reasonable scoring opportunity" portion of the penalty shot rule. Was it a penalty? Yeah, technically it was (insert the "let the ticky-tack calls go in the playoffs argument that some people make every year). I'd feebly protest the penalty, but I really object to the PS ruling.

Working that jinx early. Well played.

Detroit can't expect to stop goal-scoring machines such as Frolik, Handzus and Bickell. :D

A game seven each of the next two nights. great stuff.

From the way it appears to me all fans (Hawks, Red Wings, nuetral) are saying it was a bad call...talking heads say good call.

I really would like to see Fraser's explanation on why he thought it was correct.

In real time I was shocked by the call. Absolutely a 2, but not a penalty shot.

The talking heads referenced a new rule though and said it was called that way all year.

Certainly not gonna turn it down.

Detroit's (their fans) got nothing to complain about when it comes to the reffing in this series. It's a GD interference fest out there.

Can't believe anyone had the nerve to complain about that first call tonight.

I'm saying it is a textbook penalty shot.

24.1 Penalty Shot – A penalty shot is designed to restore a scoring opportunity which was lost as a result of a foul being committed by the offending team, based on the parameters set out in these rules.

* Coliacovo slashed Frolik, hard on the hands.
* The slash prevented a scoring opportunity.
QED

(I would like it to be called more consistently, but that's a different problem.)

Tonight, I think the missed calls evened out. (I can think of one that should have been called on Detroit for every one the Wings fans say was missed against the Hawks.) The difference was Giveaways (12 Detroit 3 Chicago)

Game 7 will be a war, and Chicago needs to be better on faceoffs.

PS How the heck was Handzus available at the trade deadline? Guy is a rock.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

A couple of observations...

- HORRIBLE offensive zone penalties while on the PP in the last 6 minutes of the game while protecting a 2 goal lead. Sharp with a selfish and stupid penalty and Hossa giving the Wings the only life they could have gotten. Dumb on both counts.

- Smith looks a lot like he did in his first season and a half in Madison. For every brilliant offensive play he'll have an equally horrible defensive lapse. I still remember one time where he made a horrible neutral zone play that led to a great chance for whoever the Badgers were playing and Oz was standing at the door staring holes through Brenden's skull as he skated over for a change. Burned in my mind as Oz looked so incredibly disgusted and angry at Smith.

His play to get the puck off the boards to Miller in the first was brilliant. He obviously had a rough third. If he figures it all out at this level, he could be special. Hopefully he waits till next year to figure it all out.

Another thing lost on the penalty shot issue is that Frolik made Howard look silly on the play. It's not like he's thought of as someone who could pull off something like that.

Part of it may have been Howard stewing about the call.

I can't remember a single time that Frolik participated in a shootout. Maybe he should starting next year...

He was loudly complaining to the refs about the PS call, but despite it's simplicity, it was a slick move. It's no secret that Howard is nothing more than average 1-on-1.

I won't even bother looking at LGW.com until tomorrow morning. I'm sure those guys are in apoplexy over the penalty shot.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

The PS is not why Det lost. Like it was mentioned earlier, the TOs and general 3rd period play....they didn't belong on the same ice as Chi.
