NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

HF is just insane/intense. It's like all the super-biased fans in one place. It's too much.

The mods are heavy handed too and GDT's are just circle jerks with you own fans.

And as EODS would point out, many (most?) Hawks fans are insufferable.

But I gotta go every once in a while. Mostly to argue with the know-it-all fans of my own team. The stuff they post...

Bunch of ****ing ledgies too. Have a little confidence for ****'s sake.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Per tCBG:

Towards the end of the first round, Milbury was arguing that the rulebook should be followed to the letter. If it's a penalty, it's a penalty. Tonight, he's advocating the refs letting things go. (A few days before his comment on strict adherence to the rules, he argued a call was borderline, and shouldn't have been made.) Why is he a respected hockey analyst, again?

I don't know. But I do know he was the worst GM in sports (not just hockey) history.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

If he's a Flyers fan, then you poison it. :D

I couple of years ago my company sent me down to NJ for a few weeks. I went to a Rangers at Devils game in the new rink in Newark (riding the bus from East Rutherford to Newark was ... ummm ... quit an experience...).

The Devils won the game 1-0 (the time before that when I went to a Devils-Rangers game, at MSG, it was 0-0 and only one shootout goal went in ... for the Devils).

As the crowd, which of course contained a lot of Rangers fans, was filing out, slowly waiting for the escalators, some fans started chanting "Rangers Suck!" Whereupon, other fans started yelling "Devils Suck!"

Then, the guy behind me shouts out, "Flyers Suck!" And everybody starts chanting "Flyers Suck! Flyers Suck!"

The guy behind me said, "I knew there was something we could all agree on." :D

Matt Millen says hello. And when he's done, Randy Smith would like a word with you.

I'm still going with Milbury. Just look at that ridiculous contract he signed that Islanders goalie to. That alone trumps Millen or Smith any day.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Matt Millen actively built a 9-7 team into 0-16. Randy Smith left the Tigers with Brandon Inge as a catcher, and a team that went 43-119. Oh, and he offered Juan Gonzalez $140 mil over 8 years, which probably would have bankrupted the Tigers at the time.

I suspect we're arguing whether spoiled chicken is better than rotten hamburger.

From wikipedia:

"During several of the years that Milbury served as Islanders GM, the team's ownership mandated that he operate the team on an austere budget. In 1999 he was forced to trade star scorer Zigmund Palffy because team owners no longer wanted to pay his multi-million dollar contract.

"However, Milbury has also been criticized for the many decisions he made in which payroll or orders from upper management were not factors. Many young players and prospects that Milbury traded away went on to have distinguished careers, often eclipsing those of the players he received in return. He has traded away defensemen Zdeno Chara, Wade Redden, Bryan Berard, Eric Brewer, Darius Kasparaitis, and Bryan McCabe; goaltenders Roberto Luongo and Tommy Salo; as well as forwards Olli Jokinen, Todd Bertuzzi, Tim Connolly, and Raffi Torres. Milbury has also come under fire for his draft day decisions such as choosing Rick DiPietro first overall in 2000 over Dany Heatley and Marian Gaborik, as well as his decision to include the 2001 second overall draft pick (Jason Spezza) as part of the Alexei Yashin trade."

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Fine. But his end result didn't cause the Islanders to test the depths of the '75(?) Caps as the worst team in NHL history. Both Millen and Smith did exactly the equivalent of that due to years of negligence and incompetence.

BTW, I knew someone would bring up Millen. I didn't know about Smith. "Funny" how they both worked for Detoit teams... Kind of a metaphor for the whole city during that time.

Millen actively destroyed a team that made the playoffs roughly every other year. Smith left a team in 2003 that Dave Dombrowski stated, and I quote, "the top 3 free agents on the market this year wouldn't keep us under 90 losses". Randy Johnson was one of those top 3 FA's, IIRC.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

All I have to say is this:

Matt Millen never charged into the stands and beat a fan with his own shoe.

Re: NHL Playoffs 2013: Shut up, Pierre...

Mark Joanette, Eric Furlatt, Wes McCauley, Dan O'Halloran, Dan O'Rourke, Chris Rooney, Brad Watson, and yes, Steve Walkom will be the officials for the Conference Finals per ESPN
