Yeah I'm sure that would go over well, if a kid wants to go he should have the option to go. No point in training a year to get mopped up by the KHL stars.

It should be handled like the world juniors. None of this take a year off nonsense to train with Olympic team. Have a camp and select a team. How long are the olympics? How many college games would a player miss?
I'm assuming players on two-way contracts are out.
So... yeah, the US and Canada are boned.
That would be a short conversation.
"Coach, I want go play in the Olympics."
"No, your commitment is to the school."
"I'm transferring, but don't worry I'll tell my friends back home you wanted to stop me from going after my dream."
That'd be awesome for recruiting.
