NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

Red Wings are playing the Devils today at the last game at the Joe.

On a related note, I remember when I made a $10 bet with Brent on which team would make it further in the playoffs. That was 9-10 years ago...

I remember the bet, but don't remember if I owe. :o

St Paul, next year, when you visit for F4, we'll square up. I SAID when you visit. No excuses.

The Red Wings went further than the Devils, and you sent me a $10 check the next week. We're good.

Ok, NOW I remember. I have to laugh that I actually sent a check. :D

I'll still buy ya a beer, if you're around for the F4 next year.

What a great night to send JLA off. It was fun to be a part of the farewell.

The wife and I were late to the game (bought tickets at 11am and hauled *ss to Detroit from Chicago), but as we walked up the steps we had to stop as some Wings alumni were on the steps having group photos taken. :D

What an awesome night and totally worth the lack of sleep tomorrow at work!!

Real jealous. Definitely never had Sheahan in my "last JLA goal" category, glad he got the monkey off the back though.

Gonna miss JLA, no barn like it, but I'm completely acknowledging that it's past time to spruce up the house. Looking forward to making a trip up early next season to check out the new Pizzarena.

Yep, it's one of those "I'm going to miss JLA, but the new building can't come soon enough."

Here is the last seventeen seconds of game, and the stick salute from both the fans and players.

I have the last "Don't stop Belivin'" also recorded, as they saved that for after the closing ceremony. As soon as I get wifi after work I'll upload it.

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

I went around six times. Only once was for the Wings, back in 2001 or 02, and I believe they beat the Rangers 3-2 or 2-1. That was also the only time I went when it was over 60% capacity. Went to the first Big Ten Tourney they held in Detroit, that might've been lucky to be at 15%. The others were GLIs.

First and probably only time I'll ever see an awarded goal. MSU committed a hook with the goalie pulled so they just put one on the board for UM.

That's too bad- there were some epic Michigan-Michigan State games that filled the Joe to the brim.

Caps vs. Maple Leafs

Go Leafs. Watching the locals move inexorably from smug to suicidal with the under-achievement of Washington franchises is one of the seasonal joys of living in the area.

Vancouver fires its coach. Dallas, Florida and Vancouver all have openings for the head coaching position. Las Vegas has yet to hire its first head coach. I'm guessing there will be a few more openings later this week as teams which didn't make the playoffs decide to "go in a different direction."

I wonder if/when the hammer will fall on Blashill.
Not this season. I think it depends on what he does with the kids from Grand Rapids next season. Ken Holland needs to do more than just sign some patchwork FA's, jam his fingers in his ears, and pretend it's 2003.

Quite telling last night was that Ken Holland was not present on the ice surface for the farewell at the Joe. He was also absent from the box seats until halfway through the farewell. The crowd broke into a "Come home Steve-ee!" chant during Steve Yzerman's speech last night. And Ken Holland was but a mere footnote during Scotty Bowman's speech.

Listening to 97.1 leaving Detroit last night, they noted those same issues, and felt that Steve hat tipped his hand slightly during his speech eluding to wanting to come home.

At first I wasn't so sure, but thinking back, Steve sure had a lot of awkward pauses and moments where he had to gather his thoughts. I know the moment was a lot for the guys, but there seemed to be *something* to his thoughts.

And Gary Bettman was in the building. Sitting with the Ilitch family. And didn't get boo'd

Speaking of coaches, we have an opening. Is there anybody competent available to take their talents to Brooklyn?

As long as Snow is buying the groceries it won't matter.

I don't know why the new owners didn't clean house. :( Now as it becomes obvious Barclays won't be the permanent home we're going to have to go back to the whole "Uniondale 2.0 or Mets' tenant?" opera, which probably ends in Kansas City.

You would think New York F-cking City would produce one white knight who liked hockey*. I mean, key-rist, I went to school with kids who were going to inherit their parents' Brazilian copper conglomerate. All I'm asking to get the Islanders back on their feet is 6, maybe 8 billion dollars.

* And yes, you would think the same thing for baseball.
