Line brawl in the Leafs Canucks game, including Ryan Miller dropping the mitts and Freddy Andersen joining in.

Old time hockey :D

Military Appreciation Night for the NYI @ TBL game tonight. Some very cool things:

First, a Vietnam vet was out with the colors. He served for 3 branches of the military (US Army, Navy, Air Force). I don't know exact roles, but they did specify he was in an advisory role to the SecNav for 20 years.

During 1st intermission, some substantial number of newly enlisted Marine recruits took their oath at center ice. Probably 50ish I would guess, maybe closer to 75.

Some other tributes and various appreciative gestures through the game, but those really stood out, on this USMC birthday and the eve of Veterans Day.

Bryan Bickell diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

That's a hardcore bummer. Hopefully he can play through it. At least he probably has access to the highest level of care.

(Part of today's lead story; not sure how long the direct link will be good...)

Quick takes:
1. I'm pessimistic that he can "play through it" at this point. But of course I'm of course hoping for the best for him.

2. This news certainly puts Bickell's on-ice struggles in recent years in a much different light. A certain OT miscue in the 2015 WCF comes to mind... Another article (earlier version?) confirmed that Bryan began experiencing the symptoms back in 2015. At the time, the thought was that he was experiencing vertigo. Of course he tried to fight through it, and only enjoyed mixed results.

3. Best wishes and prayers to Bryan and all close to him.

It worked out alright for Jordan Sigalet. He finished college, and his minor pro career was respectable, albeit short-lived. He's been a coach since.

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

My buddy had to quit playing out beer league team because he got an MS diagnosis after seeing a doctor about his leg going numb off an on (must be relapsing-remitting MS, but I never asked). He did use it as a catalyst to start ticking off bucket list items. First was to summit Mt. Kilimanjaro.

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

I agree, it's a crapshoot. He has to try and stay positive. Early diagnosis always helps.

Once it starts affecting his vision and coordination though, he's done. :(
I'll admit I don't know much about this disease. But if symptoms started showing up two years ago, is it really possible that this qualifies as an early diagnosis?

Or maybe time isn't the issue. Maybe by "early" we're referring to severity of the symptoms. In which case maybe Bryan's case really was caught early. Anyone have additional info on MS?

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

I believe it has to do with the severity of the symptoms. Not sure, though.

In Harding's case, what kept him out a lot was his reaction to the medicine. They struggled finding a good balance, if there is one.

Rumored leak of the Las Vegas logo

Trademarked names are the Silver Nights, Golden Knights, and Desert Knights. Desert Knights is my favorite. This logo appears to rule out the Silver Knights.
