NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

Re: NHL 2016.1 -- Anyone have a Laine on a new Auston?

Round 1 to Canada.

Question: If you hold a hockey game and no one cares, does that make it a scrimmage?:o

Well, I guess they care in Toronto. But even the Toronto crowd was pretty flat. The whole evening had an early season feel to it. Of course it is the early season...

But even the Toronto crowd was pretty flat.

It wasn't flat, it was scared. It was a classic home town crowd nervously watching their team leave a lesser opponent hanging around late into a game that should've been over four minutes into the second period by their assessment at the pre-game pub.

That rings true; you're probably right.

Guess I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder when it comes to playing to "Best vs. Best" games in September. I tuned in last night wanting to be wrong. But at the final horn I was left with the conviction that what I had seen was pretty ordinary.

But again, on further review, I did misread the crowd.

I try not to put stock in pre-season. But I wish the Wild looked better.

The articles/blogs that Russo has posted have not been encouraging. They brought in a ton of guys on one ways looking to fill out the bottom of the roster and with all that competition you'd figure they'd find a gem or two and they haven't.

Joel Eriksson Ek is the most exciting thing from camp. He's going to be good. Season may hinge on Nino, Coyle, Granlund, and Zucker. All (4) took steps backwards last season. They need to step up or it's going to be a long season.

Man it's weird seeing PK in a Nashville jersey. Looking good tonight, just did the old 1 man breakout leading to a Preds goal.

It was a great trade for Trashville, maybe (probably?) the best one Poile ever made. Time will tell if they actually make something out of it.

Crosby to start the season on the IR with a concussion.

I... feel bad for the kid. I may not have appreciated his playing attitude or his antics, but for a serious thing like concussions I hope this isn't the start of the end of his career. He's 29, hitting the strongest part of his career, and he's falling apart.

I once had a long chat about concussions with a D1 hockey coach and he said that there is a time in every players career where after the fourth/fifth concussion a player has, they sit him down and tell him "you know, there is a life outside of playing hockey..." and that's at the collegiate level.

Everyone seems to point to 2011 as the start of Crosby's concussion issues, but how many did he have in juniors? His first few games in the league? They all add up, and each successive concussion is triggered easier than the prior.

Goddamm, this latest concussion news is awful; I wouldn't wish on anyone. (Not even Patrick Kane.)

Oh, and the Red Wings put my boy Pulkkinen on waivers today.

Already lost Frk on waivers to the Hurricanes yesterday. Frk, Nestrasil, Lack, and Don Waddell, maybe I need to start rooting for the Canes.

Maybe Bettman will pay more attention to head injuries.

Bergeron, Price, Eichel, and Anders Lee all down with injuries and it's barely even noon.

If the impending lawsuit didn't already force action then nothing will. That said I doubt this concussion is as serious as last time where it was mostly a lingering neck issue that was keeping him out of action.

I love the Wings, but they really haven't deserved to make the playoffs the past couple years. Unfortunately, if history holds true, they'll probably sneak in as a 7-8 seed this year, and give Ken Holland another year in office.

Not a bad start for Auston Matthews. A natural hat trick on three shots!

Go Leafs Go!!! :D

Make it four in two periods. First player with 4 in his NHL debut. WOW
