NHL 2015 - Trouble Bruin! Ranger Leaf jumped the King Shark! Just Ducky!

Re: NHL 2015 - Trouble Bruin! Ranger Leaf jumped the King Shark! Just Ducky!

Moore got suspended for a hit pretty similar to that on Dale Weise in the playoffs last year. This one was, I think, a more obvious elbow, but the one last season was from a worse angle. (On the other hand, people who think "the players should police themselves," of which I am not one, would argue that the hit on Weise was "justifiable" because it was retribution for the hit where Brandon Prust broke Derek Stepan's jaw earlier in the series. As far as I know, there wasn't any such provocation here, other than a whiff of the Miami Heat in the Wild's team construction and the general obnoxiousness of Matt Cooke at least.) He deserves to sit for a few games at least.

Looking at this with a bit of introspection, I wonder how much my view of it is influenced by the fact that Moore is (if you ask me) a defensive liability in addition to picking up costly penalties and suspensions. It was easier for Devils fans to turn a blind eye to Scott Stevens' headhunting when he was a useful player in other aspects of the game.

Bottom line is headhunting wins games. And for some reason hockey players are ok with that. So, the Wild better jump on the bandwagon. Cooke is too clean nowadays.

Always so dramatic...

If a team were headhunting in order to beat the mighty Wild, doubt they'd go after Haula or even Brodin for that matter.

"Hey, let's sign max contracts together so we can play with our buddies!"
LOL

Like Parise and Suter are anywhere close to equivalent to Lebron James. If the Wild had signed Crosby then maybe.

Well, then explain what Moore was doing on that play cause I can come up with no other explanation.

The hit on Brodin happens. Kreider isn't a dirty player, just made a stupid decision. The hit on Haula was with intent to injure. Disgusting. I don't actually think that the team got together and made it a game plan to win, though.

Because the opportunity presented itself.

Guys don't headhunt Patrick Kane to beat the Hawks, so I'm pretty sure that no one has Haula on their hit list and doubt that the reigning Eastern Conference champs feel the need to headhunt the Wild in order to beat them.

Pretty standard boarding - if towards the scary end in result.

Yes, Moore intended to hit him high and will pay for it. Scoobs is implying that it's a blueprint to beat the Wild or go to the Finals. I don't buy that at all.

And to be honest, wouldn't bother me in the least to see extremely tough penalties for guys who hit like Moore did.

10 games first offense.
20 for second.
50 for third.

Heck, even double those.

Guys would figure it out pretty quick.

What's it gonna take... someone's head popping right off?

Well, so did I. But I was being a little snarky and tongue-in-cheek. :)

You're right, James is good, like really, really, really, really good, whereas Suter is pretty darned good and Parise is just slightly above average. Miami also signed Lebron during his peak years while the Wild signed Parise and Suter after their prime.

The option is there to give more than 5, however an in-person hearing does not mean more than 5 will be given.

I don't believe that I said anything different than that.

I believe that he'll get more, but at this point, all we know is that he'll get "at least" 5 games.

Consider he just did the same thing less than, what, 14 games ago? he should be out of the league entirely before he kills someone.

No, we don't know that. The in-person hearing, by itself, does not guarantee 5+ games. The option for the league is there, however a player getting offered the in-person hearing (not necessarily Moore, in this example), could end up with 1-4 games.

I also believe he'll get more than 5, but you're simply incorrect in saying that he is guaranteed that by the in-person hearing alone.

I guess I allowed precedent to become law in my mind.

My apologies.

But yes, he will get at least 5 games. :p
