Well, it was a fun season (second half). Time to get the baseball jerseys out of the mothballs.

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

You guys still excited about having Parise and Suter locked up for the next decade? ;)

Don't have a problem with it. I think there are 7 or 8 more years left, they'll be serviceable for all of that time, and pretty dang good for most of it. A player like Suter should be solid until he's 40.

Man, nobody makes mediocre goalies look fantastic quite like the Rangers. Their offense is abysmal.

Holtby's career save % is .923 on over 6000 shots faced (regular season and playoffs). That's basically what Carey Price is at over his last 6000 shots faced. He's a bit better than mediocre.

The problem isn't those 2...that's for sure. Granted Parise/Suter is Kane/Keith but not everyone has a player like Kane or Keith. Just sucks they can't even make this a series.

I think the more applicable comparisons would be Parise and Toews & Suter and Seabrook. Toews is better than Parise and Suter is better than Seabs, but not by a ton in either case.

The Wild don't have a Kane or Keith, imo.

Nor a Hossa, Sharp, Hammer, etc...

My whole comparison is the Wild are trying to build around Parise/Suter and Chicago's best players are better than both. You can turn it however you want but the best Minnesota (and most teams) has is a step below Chicago.

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

I know that many expected more from the Wild this year coz they're better (and they are) and the Hawks appeared to be worse, but the Hawks of last year were disinterested in the whole thing until about game 4 of the WCF. The Wild didn't see them at their best last year nor did the Preds this year - and both still lost to them.

The way that the Hawks have played this series - sans period 2 of game one - is simply FINALLY playing to their ability. This is the team that won a Cup two years ago and they're playing at that level now.

If they can keep it up, I don't see how anyone will beat them.

Consistently playing at that level has been a challenge though and I don't even count the current series as over.

I'm agreeing with you.

FWIW, I'd love both Parise and Suter on the Hawks and I wouldn't say that about a lot of teams' top players.

Must be nice. The Wild have to work their collective asses off just to score one goal. Chicago flips a switch and it's lights out. And, of course it had to be against Minnesota. They couldn't just play like they had pretty much all season.

As long as Chicago has Toews and Kane, Minnesota will have to upset Chicago. They'll never be favored.

Re: NHL 2015, Part II - Stanley Cup Playoff Race and Beyond

Trust me, I appreciate it and am trying to enjoy it as much as possible while it lasts.

I think the team realizes that this is the last go-round for this core+.

Most likely Sharp will be gone next year and possibly Bickell and/or Crawford and/or Oduya.

I'm hoping they've woken up from their 1.5 year Cup hangover/slumber and are trying to seize the moment.

We'll see.

They do have the young players that hopefully grow into those types of guys. They're just not at that level yet. It is obvious that guys like Brodin, Dumba, Zucker and Granlund all have some pretty bright futures that have a ways to go to get to their peak.

I think most people can look at the skaters and think that CHicago is better, the amazing part to me has been Crawford actually stepping up and looking like a legit playoff goalie after being so questionable against Nashville. That's the part that has been disappointing to me in this series. I don't understand where this goalie came from but he's not the Crawford I'm used to seeing...

Absolutely. The Wild are up and coming and these two teams are gonna butt heads for years to come.

I'm far more worried about the Wild - now and in the future - than the Blues or Preds.

Should be fun as the years go on.

You don't watch the Hawks enough then.

After Kane went down, Crow carried this team down the stretch.

A big part of the issues during the Pred series was the Hawks' crappy play in their own end.

He's legit. Perception be ****ed.

He certainly knows how to beat Minnesota. Course that's not saying much considering there isn't a single sniper to be found in the entire locker room.

Plenty of workers, not too many snipers. That's certainly the case. All of our best forwards are the kind you want to see at the beginning of a great goal, but not necessarily are the ones who will finish.
