Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Teemu Selanne passes Jari Kurri as the all-time leading Finnish scorer with a power-play goal at Colorado. He's now 19th overall on the scoring list. Comes on the night that Saku Koivu plays his 1000th game.

On a side note, did anyone see the blonde behind the Avs' penalty box?

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

I'm not too crazy about the hand pass idea, though; at least the penalty part.
I think I'd be fine with it no longer being allowed, I can't think of any logical reason why it should be; however, I also can't think of any logical reason why it should be a penalty rather than just a whistle like it presently is on the rest of the ice.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

There was an article about how the NHL may be going to hybrid icing. At least this one has the GMs' take on it: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=621884&print=true

With the hand pass, I'd just like them to make it consistent in all three zones: Either it is or it is not allowed, period. Don't allow them anywhere and the team who committed the a hand pass to have a line change, I think that is enough of a penalty.

If they wanted to disallow hand passes exclusively in the defensive zone, I'd be fine with the no change rule similar to what college does for shooting the puck out of play.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Can someone please define a kicking motion?

Don't have an official definition, but it seems to me that a kicking motion is defined as an occurrence when a player's foot is aiming at the puck with the intention of moving it. If the puck happens to randomly deflect off a skate (especially the back end), it is not being kicked and (assuming this is what you're getting at) would count as a goal if the puck ended up in the net. However, if the skater decides to play soccer with the puck and push it over the goal line intentionally using his foot, that's a kicking motion.

0.7 seconds left, Avs tie it up. Wow.

Edit: clock correction. 1.9 seconds left.

Yea. That kinda sucked.

Especially since it was at the opposite end of the ice and we didn't get a good look at it.

Man, there were a bunch of shiatty / fluky goals tonight.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Adam Burish wins tonights Avery Antic Award! Decided to pick up Tanner Glass' glove after a scrum and toss it up into the crowd. Apparently it worked, Glass supposedly 'shoved' a linesman to try to get after Burish. Probably a couple fines coming from Shanny.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

The rule that the faceoff stays in the zone if the puck deflects out of play off the crossbar is stupid.
