Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Kronwall said hi to someone tonight:

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

I agree, play should be stopped immediately in those situations.

Tough call. If it's not interfering play (he's not in the path of the action), I say play on. Otherwise you could run into players milking it for the whistle.

It seemed pretty obvious that he wasn't faking. Limbs went stiff and was doing the crappie flop for a bit.

I agree. Plus you can see that one of the lineman and a ref are both near Voracek and are aware he was down and I believe if the play came near him would have whistled it dead. We can't have the NHL stopping play every time a player goes down in his defensive zone. That would be chaos.

He should.

Why? Because his shoulder pads are so big and made of re-enforced plastic?

Vorachek had time, looked up at Kronwall, and stayed where he was.

(Directed to the NHL: )
Softer pads, immediately. And this is another example of how the red-line would NOT have helped.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

Oh, no, I didn't mean to imply that in this case. I'm looking ahead to the future.

At the end of the day, You have to allow the officials to use their judgement to stop play and let them error on the side of caution and blow the whistle. Institute a rule that if a whistle stops play in the defensive zone, the player who is down is out for 10 minutes or the remainder of the period whichever is longer.

That doesn't change the fact that in this case a penalty should have been called and the play should have been stopped.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

What penalty? Two minutes for being Kronwall? Because Vorachek put his head into the hit? Because Kronwall hit him square with his shoulder?

2 minutes for a check to the head under rule 48: the head was targeted and the principle point of contact.

I'll have to look at it again, but I think the Pronger Argument may be in effect. It didn't appear that he raised his arm/elbow, nor was it a non-puck play. Again, I have to re-watch it.

I'm not advocating for a fine or suspension, just calling a minor penalty.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

I think this is appropriate after tonight.

Re: NHL 2012: The Chase for the Cup

From Bob McKenzie:
@TSNBobMcKenzie: No suppl disc for Kronwall on Voracek. PPOC was head but deemed full body on body hit. Not a hit NHL believes should be out of the game.
