NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Just got back from the Pats parade. Good times!

Oh, and Kep, I appreciate your championship envy as much as the next guy, but the Mt Rushmore of sports teams is Pats, Yanks, Habs, and CELTICS, who not only have more titles than the Lakers mostly at the expense of the Lakers but also won them all in Boston while like 5 of the Lakers were won in Minny.

Boston baby - we OWN two of the 4 major sports!!!! :D :D :D

The Celtics don't belong there for the same reason the Green Bay Packers don't belong there. If you get the Celts you lose the Pats. Your choice.

Explain how the Lakers are over the Celtics??? They were both in the league at the same time competing for the same trophy (the NBA championship)?

The Celtics titles are a joke. They played in an 8-team league with pasty white guys. The Lakers' titles are exactly as more impressive than the Celtics' as the Pats' are than the Packers'.

As I said, pick one. Whichever logic you use for the one disqualifies the other.

Note this would apply to the Habs, too, except there has been no dominant team in the NHL since it got serious in the 70s, plus the Habs were that much more dominant.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

May not have been genius, but it was considerably better. The 5th based offense was quite a bit better than the 2nd place offense.

Of course, the Rams were going against the 7th best scoring D while the Patriots were playing against the 20th best scoring D...

If this is the case, then the Canadiens don't count either, as 10 of them were when the league was 6 teams and then another 10 while the league was still expanding.

This is a dumb argument that doesn't matter a whit, but at least be consistent.

edit: just noticed your last sentence. I swear it wasn't there when I read your post.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Huh...I missed the part where the championship got decided on style points! I think you've been watching too much figure skating. :D

But, if you'd like to review, I didn't say they had a genius offensive game plan. I said they threw a wrinkle at the Rams from the get go by not involving James White when most of the world thought they'd try to get him a lot more touches. At the end of the day, the team put up enough points to win (should have been 16 if not for idiot kicker) and also importantly controlled the time of position and field position battles.

They put up enough points to win because Goff is butt. They controlled TOP because McVay failed to realize Goff is butt. None of those things were because of the genius decision to not play James White. I think Belichick is a fantastic coach and deserves most of the credit for the Patriots success, but this specific Superbowl is due to the Rams incompetence not the Patriots greatness. Their D game plan they stole from someone else, their O game plan stunk up the joint. Just because the Rams were worse doesn't mean the Pats were good.

None of this makes any sense particularly the part about no dominant NHL team since the 70's? The Gretzky-Messier Oilers would like to speak with you...

Look Kep, you have championship envy. Just admit it and move on!

EDIT: And if pasty white guys are a disqualifier, please explain including Yankees titles from the 20's to well into the 50's when black players started to fully integrate the league.

This game was ultimately decide by Brady vs. Goff. Both teams and both coaching staffs did an excellent job of basically shutting down the other team, and neither coaching staff ever figured out how to solve the opponent. The difference was that Tom Brady has many more years of experience, and is light years ahead of Goff in terms of big game experience, and was capable of making two or perhaps three more plays than Goff did. It was a matter of finding that one guy, not a guy that was open because no one was open, but that one guy who was slightly open for an instant, and getting him the ball. Goff couldn't make that play and Brady did. That was the only difference in the game.

Sorry sparky, but the only butt here is the butt hurt out of you because once again the Pats are champs! Goff and McVay got made to look bad despite having a great year because of the Pats. They didn't up and forget how to play football. Regardless we'll bask in an unprecedented 6 title for one coach-QB combo while the rest of you try to find lame excuses. If it makes you feel better...

I'm sure I added it. I am always seeing errors and editing. Not nefarious.

The Yankees continued to dominate even after they done let them darkies in.

You argue terribly even about non-politics. But always from that same "Deep in my heart, you know I'm right" King of Comedy delusion, so god bless you for it. That is the only way to argue -- Dr. Mrs. has never understood this.

I already admitted my utter hatred for the Pats consists at least 50% in championship envy. The other 50% is my hatred of Boston, which was just as strong (in fact, stronger, as I was closer to my time having lived there) back when it was the Capitol of Loserdom not just in terms of its steerage human population but also its terrible teams, before the dawn of this so far absolutely ghastly millennium.

This does not give McDaniels the credit he deserves. He came up with the personnel package and formation that finally was successful and created the mismatches by getting both Gronk and Edelman matched with a linebacker. The one pass to Gronk was perfectly placed in a small gap in coverage and was really the only great throw Brady made in the game.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

As with Bernie, the Pats are already yesterday's news for me. I look forward to a bright socialist future without either.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

My bet is grey shirt / blonde afro who takes it full in the teeth and goes down behind the car, never to be seen again.

I'd never wear a blonde afro to a Pats parade. Red, white and blue baby!

Let's let's have some love for us poor Boston fans who had to go a whole 3 months without a title. :D

Bottom line - the local sports teams feed off of the awesomeness of the local population. Its the only explanation that fits.

Re: NFL 2019: Superb Owl and Offseason

Oy, Rover. Enough.

I went to the parade. Or at least I tried to. I work a block away from the parade route. It was madness. I didn't stay. Maybe I'm getting to old for this crap. People were pushing and trying to get closer and I was like "People are standing 10 deep. Where do you think you're going to go??" I went to the Red Sox parade and I thought that crowd was nuts. There had to have been twice as many people today.

Which poses an interesting question - why? The Red Sox have been around longer. What is it about baseball vs. football? And I suppose you could throw other sports into that mix as well. For those of you that live in cities with multiple teams, which one do you think would draw bigger fans? I'm thinking of cities like Chicago or LA. What sport would generate more crazy crowds?

The weather today was amazing. I vaguely recall the weather being kinda crappy for the Sox parade.

I think this is 100% correct. The MVPs were the coaching staffs, especially those on defense. They developed a plan and the players executed. It was kind of a boring marvel to watch.
