NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

He's a 6-3 kid who started one season. If he was an inch or two shorter, he'd be a 6th rounder.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

Rule #1 - Don't leave a paper trail.

Eli Manning turned over a potentially incriminating email earlier this month in connection with a lawsuit that claims the quarterback, the New York Giants and a team equipment manager knowingly provided false game-worn memorabilia to collectors.

The email was included in a court filing in Bergen County (N.J.) Superior Court by the plaintiffs -- collectors Eric Inselberg, Michael Jakab and Sean Godown -- who first filed suit three years ago.

On April 27, 2010, Manning sent an email to Giants head equipment manager Joe Skiba asking for "two helmets that can pass as game used." The email was initiated after Manning was sent a note by Alan Zucker, his marketing agent throughout his career, to come up with some equipment to satisfy his obligation to provide such materials to sports memorabilia company Steiner Sports.

Not sure why the Browns just don't wait for Jimmy G to come available next year. Presumably with their cap space they can outbid everyone else and you'd rather have a guy who's seen NFL action and a 1 year starter in college. If the Pats franchise him work out a deal. I like how the Browns are beefing up the O line so whoever their franchise QB is doesn't get killed.

I don't understand why every team doesn't do this. The first two things I would shop for if I were starting a team from scratch (essentially what the Browns are doing) is an O line and a secondary.

I have said for years that unless you have the #1 overall draft pick with both a need and an opportunity for a once in a lifetime quarterback talent, no first round draft pick should ever be spent on anything but offensive and defensive linemen. Probably second round as well.

I'm guessing its because the owner needs to sell tickets and the GM wants to keep his job, so a splashy QB pick wins out. One can argue the Dolphins would have been better off taking Matt Ryan than an offensive tackle with the #1 overall pick (Jake Long maybe?). Still, a guy's career can go south pretty quick if he's getting gang tackled every time he drops back to pass.

And given how many people here know who the hell Mitch Trubitsky is, you can't get any splashier than that! :P

That's why I'm guessing they go Jimmy G even if they have to deal a top pick for him.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

He was found guilty of illegal possession of a firearm, which is another 4-5 year sentence.

This incident was prior to his contract signing, so that might be enough for the Pats to void his contract and free up cap space.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

30 years ago this spring, the Colts moved out of Baltimore in the dead of night. Quite possibly the biggest dick move in NFL history.

Re: NFL 2016-17 II: Playoffs, Super Bowl, and Offseason

So he has four to five years added to his life sentence, which means he still gets out a week and a half before Bernie Madoff.

His lawyers are now going to take a look at that conviction on appeal. His current legal team are the same people that got Casey Anthony acquitted as well.

Plus as I mentioned, since this occurred before his contract signing, a conviction here could give the Patriots grounds to void his contract and eliminate his cap hit. They're still on the hook for him now because the first murder occurred after his signing.

They cut him didn't they? Shouldn't that all be gone by now? This isn't a hobby Bonilla situation...
