NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Deciding between Green Bay and Dallas is like deciding between North Dakota and Wisconsin. I'd rather punch myself in the nuts repeatedly until I pass out before deciding on who I want to win this game.

Fixed.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

I want Dallas to win because I want Green Bay out. No simpler than that :)

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

On the controversial pass interference call, Dez Bryant (sans helmet) comes running onto the field to argue the call. That's an automatic 15-yarder.

I'll side with the nit-pickers, and say that happens more often than not and let it go.

There were enough bad calls in this game to warrant some looking at.

they mentioned that on the CBS national radio broadcast (not during a game, mind you)

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

It could have gone either way

No it couldn't.

In college where face guarding is allowed, it could have gone either way.

In the NFL, that's a penalty every time.

Even today... until it wasn't.

I meant the ones on my Facebook wall. Lay low because they stole it from the Lions.

So more the thing where Cowboys fans are quiet until they're winning, then?

As for the people who decided to be Cowboys fans for a day: I'm sure a lot of people, myself and perhaps even the NFL included, just didn't want the leg-stompers win.

Pete Morelli said the exact opposite. Face guarding is a penalty in college not the NFL.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Thanks for bringing that up DX, I was just as confused.

Another question I have because I have zero knowledge of football, how often do flagged penalties get picked up and not called? In a close playoff game, wouldn't it be better to call the penalty than create a sh**storm by picking the flag back up?

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

No, picking up the flag and saying that there isn't a penalty on the play is SOP, if the referees have a little conference to discuss the flag. Doesn't happen too frequently but it happens.

Recanting the call after the referee announces it is really odd.

I've seen it, but it was before the play was called and they announce "no foul because the ball was uncatchable sort."

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Yeah, this was unusual but it sounds like this crew hadn't worked a lot of games together. So I guess that's somewhat understandable.

The NFL putting a new crew out there for the playoffs was probably a poor choice.

I agree.

The one thing I will say about the play is this. When you looked at it from high up, or from behind the receiver, and especially if you were looking at the defender's actions, I think your tendency would be to throw the PI flag. He didn't turn his head around. Was some contact, although I think the contact was relatively minor in today's NFL.

But there was one angle, from ground level near the line of scrimmage, where when you saw the play what you saw was the defender running between the receiver and the quarterback and the pass hitting the defender square in the back. From that angle it didn't really look like pass interference. It just looked like a poorly thrown ball. I wonder if it was one of the linesmen from up near the line of scrimmage who would have had that angle who overturned it?

In any event, that was a poorly played game by both teams. They were lucky they were playing each other. Probably couldn't have beaten any other playoff teams, except perhaps Cincinnati.

They do it for the playoffs every year. The league evaluates all of its officials throughout the season, and then uses the officials with the best performance records throughout said season (refs judged against refs, side judges against side judges, etc.), regardless if they worked together or not.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Sounds like the head of refs said that defensive holding should have been called.

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Love all the closet Cowboy fans coming out of the woodwork. Hope Rodgers and Co. dismember them. Even my bro-in-law the Cowboys fan couldn't believe it.
As a fan of the most hated team in the NFL from the 2002 Super Bowl on, it is nice to remind every one about how much we all hated the Cowboys in the 90's.
Bandwagon, ho!

Re: NFL 2014-15: Iron Fist Getting Rusty?

Um, apparently the Rams owner is moving the team to LA. Even if he doesn't get approval from the NFL.
