New Years Tourney Scores!!

Re: New Years Tourney Scores!!

Manhattanville = Best D-III team I've seen this year.

Hats off to them. They're a darn good team.

I agree, totally outplayed Norwich and desearved the win. I hate to copy George Commo, but he said it first, "Norwich is not a good team at this point". Can't help but agree, but the key words are "at this point". The team does not seem to be playing well together and you can have as many sharp shooters as you want and still not win if you don't work well with others. Sooner of later, they will loosen up and connect with their passes and timing. Then we will see a good Norwich team that we are use to seeing. Can't blame any one player but I can praise one player in particular. Pierre-Oliver Cotnoir is awesome both defensively and offensively...he never seems tired and is always is in on a play.

I can't disagree, although I though Norwich's effort in the first period was sub par (silly expression - should be that they played about 4 over par)

I was impressed with how quick Manhattanville was.

As soon as I saw how easily Adrian handled Curry, I knew it was potentially a difficult night based on the ever popular comparaitve score basis. (That was one of the chippiest games I've seen in a while, however)

1-1 in Plattsburgh...Neumann gets a PP goal on an "aweful call" by St.Louis...

I know St. Louis is not a great ref, but it seems like Plattsburgh always blames him when the other team gets a PP goal. Just saying...

Just sayn...because he always has to be a part of the game.....call it like it is....just saying. Just like the whinning we heard yesterday from the man in the crease..... just saying

Re: New Years Tourney Scores!!

After hearing so much about Adrian I was really looking forward to watching them face Manhattanville. At least on this night they were no match for the Valiants. They were out hustled, out played, and out scored. Now I know one game is not enough to judge a team so let's see how they do about a solid Nichols team tomorrow.

With Norwich only matching Adrian’s performance (both teams lost by 4 - Adrian put up 30 SOG's to Norwich's 23), and given the thumping they gave Nichols to Norwich's squeaking by, perhaps Adrian is closer to the real deal than it initially seemed Friday.

The problem with the call was that Matty McCloud was circling behind the net when the puck another Platty player and a Neumann player were coming back around the net the other way. Matty jumped to avoid his own player and when he did the Neumann player cut hard toward the front of the net and he and Matty bumped into eachother. it was coincidental contact but St. Louis called it.... later in the night Dylan Clarke was just about tackled in the corner and there was no call... it was a typical Mike St. Louis officiated game.

Yes. But that call was indeed bad. Called an interference, when the Cardinal Player jumped to get out of the way of the Neumann player (both were going behind the net from opposite sides), and yet the Neumann player still skated right into him, and immediate went down. Absolute bovine excrement. (Note: at first, I thought I agreed with the call, or at least understood why he would call it, until I realized what he was actually calling)

What I saw tonight was a hard-fought physical game by both teams. Very entertaining. Lots of hard hits, most of which were legal but clearly hurt. A bit of concern as Dylan Clarke got flipped over... he was literally vertical in the air, but with his head closer to the ground. thankfully he popped straight up and ended up hitting the guy back real hard (again, legally) a few seconds later. There was one (and only 1) hit that didn't get called that I though should have. Clearly a hit from behind, possibly a hit to the head as well. St. Louis was standing about 5 feet away, looking straight at it, and just shook his head. Ridiculous.

Anyway, for some positives... all 3 goals tonight were beauties. Whether Neumann's PP unit should have been out or not is a moot point now, but the goal was a well-executed play by the Knights, and a perfect shot high-stick-side, screened perfectly... nothing any goalie could have done. The first Plattsburgh goal was a great tic-tac-toe goal, that had McKinnon beat all the way. And Schleuter's GWG... wow. Puts it on net, gets hit, and while he's still off-balance, connects a wrister on the rebound and puts it high. Had a bit of a wobble to it, so it kinda curved around as it went in. I think it was TimTheFlagMan who said "You could just tell with that goal that Vick put it exactly where he was shooting".

And kudos to Josh Leis. Only allowed 2 goals all weekend. Stonewalled some great opportunities tonight. Sticksnstones said that, in the 2nd period, every time Neumann had a big breakaway, it didn't matter. Leis came out and gave them NOTHING to shoot at. Some great reaction plays, including a nice dive across the crease to put his stick on a rebounding puck and get it to his defensemen. The D fell asleep a couple of times, but Leis was there to save them. I credit him with 0 responsibility for the 1 allowed goal. As Ducky said in the postgame, this was probably Leis' best performance as a Plattsburgh Cardinal. He absolutely deserved that MVP award.

All-in-all, that game was definitely worth seeing. I certainly left satisfied, and not just with the result.

EDIT: The parts in bold are the 2 incidents to which Loudhorns is referring.

Its Raining, Its pouring and the Penguins need scoring! In the Winter Classic its 2-1 Capitals with 10 minutes left in the game. Now changing ends for the rest of the 3rd.

Sorry, I didn't mean to say it wasn't a bad call, with St. Louis you can almost guareentee it was. No harm intended.

Re: New Years Tourney Scores!!

Since it's now agreed that Manhattanville belongs in Hockey East, can we all go back to believing Adrian is the best team in all of D3? ;)

Just to clarify ... I think I said Norwich is not a GREAT team ...

I do think they will get it together but they are fragile right now mentally and that goal 20 seconds in really got them off their game ...

Still take nothing away from M-Ville ... the best team I've seen so far this year.

Irony ... when Norwich played Plattsburgh in the Primelink Title game in November it was the Birds who really needed a win to get back on track ... they got it and they did.
Now ... role reversal ... it is the Cadets who really need the win heading to Stafford on Tuesday.

Re: New Years Tourney Scores!!

Reflecting on what I saw last night - I saw some very good individual play, but not a lot of good team positional hockey. Looked like every body was trying to do it alone

Re: New Years Tourney Scores!!

Does a scoreboard work?? :)

It appears that the problem with Plattsburgh's scoreboards has been traced to an issue with the circuit controlling the goal lights - left disconnected last night, they operated without any issues during both the third place and championship games. Nice they are finding the problem, however, the overall handling of the situation is nevertheless, totally unacceptable. I'm hoping that they at least review the tape and learn a lot from it.
