Same here. No idea why the chick was in it, though (other than "you hafta have a chick in a movie"). A completely superfluous character.
Because she shows Caesars increasing isolation as the only one of him around. Kind of ****es me off that they keep showing clips from it to promo it on TV with what was obviously going to be a love interest for him that they cut out. Directors cut will be interesting.

It seemed pretty obvious most of her got left on the cutting room floor, but why we do need that crusty old formula again? It would have been far more interesting to have a complex relationship with his father show him being torn between obsession and human connection. But that would have been difficult to write, and it would risk going over the head of the audience. So we get "I don't even know who you ARE anymore!" For the eleven billionth time. Maudlin and lazy.

I honestly dont think they cut much of her out, I know it seems that way but it I think that was just the jumpy nature of the early part of the film where 5 years passed in a blink of an eye. I honestly only think she was in the movie to act as Caesars mother (in their family dynamic) there was no other real purpose. It was more psychological than anything else.

I'm a Kevin Smith fan, but I wouldn't call myself one of them new fangled "fanboys." That said, this looks interesting, Red State.

Every time I see a clip from FULL METAL JACKET I have to wonder what R. Lee Ermey had to say to the actor who was originally set to play the Gunnery Sargent... Whatever it was, it was enough to let Kubrick basically allow him to take the character and run with it...

From imdb:

Former US Marine Corps Drill Instructor R. Lee Ermey was not originally hired to play Gunnery Sgt. Hartman but as a consultant for the Marine Corps boot camp portion of the film. He performed a demonstration on videotape in which he yelled obscene insults and abuse for 15 minutes without stopping, repeating himself or even flinching - despite being continuously pelted with tennis balls and oranges. Stanley Kubrick was so impressed that he cast Ermey as Hartman.

The videotape demonstration was not the only factor which got R. Lee Ermey the role as the drill instructor. Ermey went to Stanley Kubrick and asked for the part, as the actors on the set were, in his opinion, not up to snuff. When Kubrick declined, Ermey barked an order for Kubrick to stand up when he was spoken to, and the director instinctively obeyed. That sealed the matter, and Ermey won the part as Gunnery Sgt. Hartmann.

Whatever it was, it was likely not fit to put on film. That's for sure.

The Men Who Stare At Goats was on tonight. Gave it a second shot (thought it was okay at best the first time I saw it).

I regret it. Couldn't even hold my attention one bit. It was just rambling pointlessness.

That is a movie I really want to like, and I keep trying, but I just can't do it.

Mega Shark Vs Crocosaurus.....

AND it has Jaleel "Urkel" White in it. :D

And now "Swamp Shark." With Wade Boggs. Yes, that one. Amazing.

Re: New/Rented Movies : Pixar actually made a bad movie

Finally, "Zombie Strippers."

This is one that is so bad, it's not even good-bad. It's just unentertaining bad.
