Batman (1966) is on right now. Horribly great campy movie. But it does remind one that Lee Meriwether (Catwoman) is easy on the eyes. And also, Ed Harris could have replaced the guy who plays the Riddler; they resemble each other a little.

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I think some of you are thinking too much about a friggin Muppets movie. Even if Segal didn't write it the Muppets is about the easiest formula to work with. Disney is cheap they will just do that which has been done before and make millions off it. That has been their MO since about 1960. And since Jim Henson is listed as one of the writers and his kid is doing many of the voices...I think it will be fun.

Plus Danny Trejo is in it so Brent just creamed his pants!

Plus Neil Patrick Harris is in it which makes it legen...wait for it...DARY!

Plus Donald Glover is in it, so the funny parts of Community will be in it ;)

Plus Ricky Gervais is in it so plenty of people will be made fun of :D

I should look that up. "Enron: The Smartest Guys In The Room" sounds like a similar movie/doc, and that blew my mind.

Being an Economics grad student, some of my classes this year discussed the premise of the movie and it was very very accurate. The sad thing is that for every book, news article, or movie that is put out about the financial collapse, there's a ton of money spent to discredit the findings because it makes companies and hedge fund managers look bad.

And the fact that "There are three kinds of lies: lies, dammed lies, and statistics." (c) Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke

And as the old joke goes:

During an interview for an accounting position, this took place:

Employer: You appear to be good with numbers. What is 23987532 x 687787623, with a yearly depreciation of 7.3% over a ten year time period?
Interviewee: What do you want it to be?

Well if that is true then I take back some of the bad things I have said about Hank Paulsen since the movie paints him in a good light. (Bernanke too...Geithner looks like the snivling weasel I suspected he was)

While Republicans blamed minority lending and Fannie and Freddie and Dems blamed lack of oversight and greedy rich people the fact is everyone is accountable. The banks cared more about their doctored balance sheets and every schmuck had to own a house and leverage it to the hilt. Then Treasury freaked, bailed out the big boys and basically screwed any chance at real recovery. At least if the banks failed everything would have bottomed out. As of now we limp along, gimped into more and more action. We are like House, if he had cut off his leg he never becomes an addict and doesnt screw up his life. Instead he kept the leg and lived in pain the rest of is life.

I hope they all burn.

Basically, from what I've read:

1. People that are not rich foolishly thought they could afford a 300K house.
2. Banks saw the profit from interest/etc on the loan, and cheered, and approved.
3. Poor(er) people who got the loan finally figured out that they can't afford it. Whoops.
4. Banks figured that out way beforehand and transferred (for lack of a better word) to others.
5. .......
6. Banks profit, nation goes into foreclosure. And the responsible people who only buy what they can afford are *ed.
7. Gub'ment bails out banks, but now banks have to be responsible for the loans they give out. For a while, I suppose. Maybe. Depends on the economy.

But I will look that movie up. Those types of things are always intriguing.

I have a great deal of respect for Bernanke, he's probably the only person that could run the Fed somewhat acceptably in this time. Geithner is a complete weasel, the bailouts essentially killed any hope of free market reforms in the short term and essentially forced the Fed to perform quantitative easing. Paulsen is someone who I think is an idiot, but he did get a bit too much of the blame for the crisis. A lot of the problems of the housing crash was a result of both Republicans and Democrats letting oversight laws expire, or more importantly, be amended to the point they were non-existent. Several of the laws that lapsed about ten years ago prohibited the packaging of the mortgages they manner in which they did. Specifically, bundling a bunch of bad ones and a few good ones together gave it a rating that was better than the actual mortgage package was.

Anyways back to movies. I'd highly suggest watching Freakonomics, the documentary based on the book by Steven Levitt and Stephen Dubner. It's excellent and you learn a lot about the simple things. (The book made me want to be an Economist.)

Seriously, What. The. F? Recommended by a casual movie seer co-worker of mine.

It's legit, despite it being from MTV:

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

I saw Hangover 2 this weekend. It was pretty good, I laughed alot, which is obviously the point of the whole movie. It wasn't as good as the first one, which was expected, but if I hadn't seen the first one, it probably would have been just as great. The story was basically the same as the first, with just different and more effed up stuff happening to the characters. Definitely delivered some great lines, like the first. Pretty **** good for a sequel, in my opinion.

Not even the Hugh Jackman cameo could ruin X-Men First Class. So much better than the other movies it's not even funny.

The trailer looked very good; great to hear it delivers.

(500) Days of Summer was, defying all expectations, wonderful. Zooey Deschanel is ridiculously pretty.

I thought Katy Perry was in that one? ;)

Agree that movie was much better than I thought it would be. And Zooey is a cutie.

Indeed it does. I think my favorite part was near the end where Xavier is begging Magneto not to bomb all the embargo ships that just tried to kill them, and he says that they are good men who are "just following orders" and you can tell that it's the absolute worst possible thing he could have said at that moment.
