Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

The King's Speech: Excellent movie. I wasn't sure how much I would like it going in, by the end I was completely sold. Very deserving of the Oscar and so was Colin Firth in the lead role. If it wasn't for Christian Bale being so incredible in The Fighter, I would have to say that Geoffrey Rush would be my pick for best supporting actor. Very highly recommended.

I need to bump that on my queue, but frankly, I need a fun classic movie, so I have "Rock'n'Roll High School" on its way, to watch after I finish the "Brotherhood" SHO series (which is awesome, btw).

Watched Ninja Assassin tonight (yay free HBO/Max weekends). Entertaining bloody ninja action as expected.

I had to see Love and Other Drugs in the theater with my parents. They chose, not knowing it was basically an Anne Hathaway's Boobs vehicle. Movie itself was boring, but Anne made it tolerable.

We just got HBO so boobies on TV are still a novelty. In Game of Thrones the only game is "who's got the biggest pair?"

The King's Speech

Great movie. I actually think that Rush outshined Firth, even though Firth was excellent. The rehearsal for the final speech is a classic scene! :D I didn't see what was so special about Carter's role that they needed a name actress. Any serviceable actress would have done just as well.

Brent, I won the Netflix Black Swan sweepstakes. Got it sent to me today, too bad I won't be home until Friday to watch it.

From what I've read, people who know the Queen personally say Carter was perfect in the role, dead on in her portrayal.

Been watching movies I skipped when they were released.

Clash of the Titans (remake) - Meh. The only cool character is involved for 10 minutes before dying to Medusa.

Jonah Hex - Dumb. Megan Fox boobs might have saved it a bit, but none of those either.

The Informant - This could have been good. But I could never seem to get in to it. Plus the story doesn't really tie itself together at the end very well.

I did too. Getting it tomorrow, along with The Blind Side.

I'm just saying that a "lesser" actress probably could have done what Carter did. It's not a knock on Carter at all, but some average actress probably could have nailed the role.

I agree about HBC in that movie, but it was also nice to see her pull off a role that didn't involve playing an evil character and/or psychopath of some kind.

I just watched it this weekend and was underwhelmed. Perhaps a victim of its own hype for me. It was good, not great IMO.

Let it NEVER be said that Darren Aronofsky makes normal movies.

Black Swan is one brilliant *ed up movie. Portman deserved her awards. And Vincent Cassel continues to impress me as an actor. Unfortunately, Mila Kunis is still Mila Kunis. She's just not very good, in my opinion.

True. But she licked the inside of Natalie Portman's thigh. So there's that.

I can honestly say that the lesbian scene wasn't overhyped. Some of the scene shots were more than I expected. And I'm kinda jealous of Kunis in that aspect. ;) And I will say that it was done rather "artfully" not gratuitously. It actually DID add to the plotline/story.

And if you want a summary (for lack of a better word) of Aronofsky's movie style, the techno-scene is all you need to know (which I suppose technically ends with the lesbian part).

Re: New/Rented Movies: Bring Back Laserdiscs!

Just watched The Express and loved it. Apparently even though I don't like football, I'm a sucker for football movies. REALLY enjoyed it. I didn't know anything about Ernie Davis, so I can't vouch for the historical accuracy, but it was entertaining.
