Surprised to see Ozz in first, but I guess its tough to put Wick there without having played any games. I'm guessing once they start playing they will jump up to 1 and possibly stay there for a long time. That team is stacked.

Exactly. My personal philosophy when I submit my vote, is that unless I picked a team #1 in the preseason poll, I will never move them to #1 until they have played a game.

Curious to know what your philosophy would be on SNC. A loss to an unranked team along with a tie to an unranked team and they are hanging in there at #3. Respect for SNC's history as a top program obviously influenced pollsters more than their shaky start. They lost a lot of very good players and I'm not so sure they are third in the nation. If Adrian had the same record.......with the line-up changes they underwent, I'd expect them to drop like a rock.

While I am not sure I agree with Oswego being number 1, the more pressing question is who gave a vote to Suffolk? Winning the Becker tournament must carry a lot of weight in someone's eyes.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/7

SNC being at #3 still puzzles me. I thought Adrian would be there. I can understand Wick not being in first. Also, I think Oswego is getting more credit for going to going to the Aud and playing in the tough environment. They've pretty much taken care of business otherwise.

Re: New Poll Predictions for 11/7

To me you have to look at who Oswego has played.
2 games against Elmira
1 game against Utica
1 game against Geneseo

3-1-0 Record is not to shabby.

Pretty much everyone else who could take over a top spot really doesn't have the resume YET to overtake them. SNC puzzles me a little more. I guess they are getting the RIT vote so far. Norwich, you can't really knock them down too much if they havn't played, nor can you increase them for the same reason.

So then you are down to your next group of 2....which if you look at the points are pretty close to the top 3.

Adrian - Besides their come back win over Geneseo, beating a Northland team isn't a great accomplishment.
Plattsburgh - @ Morrisville and @ Potsdam 2 games they should have won....1/2 of the team missing...jury is still out.

If any of the top 3 falter this week and Adrian and Plattsburgh both sweep, ANY team could drop from 1 to 5.

After those two you see a big drop off in points....

Castleton - 2 wins over subpar teams.
Utica - Great win over Oswego, but had they won the game vs Elmira I could justify them being farther up. After two laugher games against St.Mikes and Westfield they will have a tough stretch to prove they belong.

Norwich exhibition schedule was as follows:
Dartmouth 3 Norwich 1
Norwich 3 Trois-Revieres 0

So it is not like Norwich hasn't played top competition yet. I realize the games don't count in the D3 standings but Norwich's competitive effort against 2 good D1 teams has to be recognized too. I am sure Oswego, Elmira, and Plattsburgh would play D1 teams if given the chance.

you cant base a poll off of exhibition games...use some common sense.

This weekend series against a hot UWRF team will be a good gauge on where this SNC team is. If adrian takes care of business at MSOE I'm guessing they will jump SNC next Monday. I would be shocked if the left Falls with more than two points.

Note: I'm 100% loyal to SNC, but even with 30/20 vision I know what I'm seeing.

1) Exhibition game don't count. 2) Since when is Trois-Rivieres a D1 team? They aren't even an NCAA team.

I've tried to tell him that Trois-Rivieres isn't a D-I team. I said they have played D-I teams closely in the past and maybe that's where he got that and then ran with it from there.

Prez of course the Canadian U teams are not NCAA D1 teams since they are part of the Canadian U system coast to coast. Going back a couple of years looking at UVM which is a Hockey East team, New Bruswick defeated UVM 3-2 last year and the year before UVM beat McGil by the same score. Don't most hockey experts consider the Canadian U hockey teams comparable to D1 NCAA hockey?

The very best and most consistent of the CIS programs - McGill, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Western, UNB - usually acquit themselves well in DI exhibitions, but there's a hee-uge dropoff beyond that. For purposes more pertinent to this thread, UQTR is a good program having a meh season in Canada so far. By contrast, the UNB team you mentioned nipped UVM by a goal, but was good enough by CIS standards to take the University Cup last season.
