New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

Re: New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

Jase didn't flunk out of BSU...he just knew he wouldn't get much action with Bakala and Dugas both performing well last season.

Sorry but there has to be more to it than that.
Unless he really is that stupid, he wouldn't have transferred there if he thought he wouldn't play the following year.

Also, I would think we'd have heard of him going somewhere if playing time was the only reason...

Re: New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

It was worth a shot! We'll take our chances with U-Mass troublemaker -transfer David Boehm now!

He was highly recruited by UMass but broke his leg 2 games into his freshman year and got into some trouble last season. When he does play he has decent speed and can be physical. He shouldn't be eligible to play until January, thats when he withdrew from school.

Re: New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

UND has a very small, but very talented, incoming class.

Derek Forbort, D, NTDP U18
Dillon Simpson, D, Spruce Grove (AJHL)
Derek Rodwell, F, Okotoks (AJHL)
Brock Nelson, F, Warroad (MNHS)

The top three are confirmed as coming in, but the word around the grapevine is that Brock will also be joining this class and coming right out of HS.

Both Forbort and Nelson are potential 1st round draft picks. Simpson isn't draft eligible until next year.

UND waiting another year on Mattson?

Re: New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

A bit more detail on SCSU's incoming class...

F - Nic Dowd - Indiana - USHL
F - Cam Reid - Westside - BCHL
F - Cory Thorson - Owatonna - NAHL
F - Bryce Johnson - Topeka - NAHL
D - Nick Jensen - Green Bay - USHL
D - Brandon Burrell - Wenatchee - NAHL
D - Kevin Gravel - Sioux City - USHL

- Nic Dowd missed some time due to injury, but was amongst the top three on his team in ppg scoring. He was selected in the 2009 NHL draft.
- Cam Reid was 14th in BCHL scoring. He was selected in the 2009 NHL draft.
- Both of the NAHL fowards were amongst the top 13 in league scoring.
- Nick Jensen led all USHL defenseman in +/- in each of the past two seasons, the only defenseman to do so since tracking of the stat began. He was selected in the 2009 NHL draft.
- Brandon Burrell finished 11th in scoring amongst NAHL defensemen.
- Kevin Gravel is expected to be a selection in the 2010 NHL draft.

With the possible exception of Nick Jensen, this class doesn't have any player I'd expect to compete for ROTY, but as a whole I'd call it solidly above average. Burrell and Johnson are the two players I think might be watching from the press box more often, but none of these guys are solid top two liners except Jensen.

UND waiting another year on Mattson?

Nick Mattson would have come to UND this fall if not for Genoway's return. So he will have one more year in the USHL.
Unless you were talking about Danny Mattson, who appears to be heading back to the USHL next season as well.

Both Danny and Nick are expected to join UND in the fall of 2011 now from the sounds of it.

No, you were right, I was talking Nick. Thanks.

Re: New Kids on the Block - WCHA Edition

It sounded like this was not for sure either way yet......... though I don't know why they would wait and not bring him in this fall.

Hammy confirmed it an hour ago, along with speculation on the reasoning behind the decision.
