New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

If Hurricane Katrina is gone by tomorrow try newberry street for some fun places. I always love bottega fiorentina for a quick/affordable but good Italian bite. Great pastas, better sandwitches. If you really are looking to eat, Tapeo is a fun tapas resto. Otherwise, there's litterally dozens of small places to eat on Huntington.

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

There's tons of places around.. depends what you're into. They are lined up & down the avenue.. (both Huntington & Mass Ave).

You can always grab exquisite cuisine (rarities like pizza & dogs) at our concessions inside :)

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Any suggestions for a place to grab a bite before the game Friday that is walking distance to Mathews?

That I can think of right away that are within about a 3 minute walk (in no particular order):

Temptations
Shawarma
BHOP
UNO's
Burger King
Quizno's
Dunkin's
Subway
Symphony Sushi

There's also the food court in the Prudential Center which is probably 5-10 minutes away, as well as PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, and a couple other places at the Pru as well. I may be missing some, but that should be a decent list.

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

I have a feeling he is looking for more than a T Subway and a Dunkin Donuts

Conor Larkin's sells decent food, Our House East is pretty average on the food front. Both obviously sell beer as well...

Usually a decent crowd at Uno's and that is the closest....

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Probably so, but they're there aren't they? He asked for places to grab a bite, so I mentioned what was around.

For Saturday night, do they actually check student IDs? I had a friend get me a couple tickets but they say valid ID required. Some places say that but don't actually check, so what's the deal at the Lake?

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Its funny, I half expected the title of this thread to be UNH vs. a road bump. UNH should have no problem rolling a weak NU team whom has proven average at best without an all American caliber tender between the pipes. UNH is the best team in the league, and will make noise in the NCAAs. Looking past towards next weekend is way more important that getting gassed playing a bunch of dusters down near Huntington ave.

Prediction: UNH sweeps. Second game, they roll the third and fourth lines more than the first two.

Predication #2: Matt Fornataro goes back in time, short sells Microsoft and Berkshire Hathaway class A stock and still makes a fortune.

Prediction #3: Goldman Sachs gives back all the money it stole from the United states citizens.

...I think #3 is the most unrealistic predication at this point.

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Well.. we are 3- 2 - 1 against you guys since 2007.. so there's some hope for us 'down & outta luck' types :)

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

..think you mentioned something about going back in time & shorting..

incidentally... if you don't short Microsoft & Berkshire A last couple yrs... there is no way you make $ :)

True, the short selling was a good way to turn a buck or 5 million in the past few years.

Also, just so you know. On Bostonbarstool sports.com, the latest smokeshow of the day was from none other than the University of New Hampshire. Better hockey and hotter bitties than NU!

So you found one inbred who looks pretty good. Is she your third cousin twice removed/sister/aunt?

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

From Mass Ave.. take a right on Columbus Ave (if coming from Huntington).. or left onto Columbus (if coming from I-93).. go down approx 1/4 mile. On your right are a couple baseball fields.. turn right immediately after they end.. tell guard you're there for NU hockey.. parking is complimentary for the gm.

Exit lot facing downtown Boston.. walk up the stairs (crossing over the Amtrak/ T tracks).. Matthews is on your right. G'luck & hope you enjoy the gm (hopefully, not the outcome) :).

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Even though that was a 'tie'.. it was a W for UNH. Down 3-0, they never let up. Battled back & earned the result. NU absolutely dominated the 1st & parts of the 2nd period. Then.. don't ask!

Second gm in a row we allow SHG (not cool !). Right after.. a 'too many men' penalty allowing them to score again & get right back in. Even UNH fans around us acknowledged NU controlling.. then throwing that gm away..

I think Tyler McNeely & Jake Newton played really well. Rawlings was average tonight. The NU goal that was called back was a good call (in my opinion).

UNH played very disciplined.. kudos to Umile for keeping it clean. I thought Sislo played really well for them (more so than DeSimone & Butler even). That breakaway in the 1st for us.. (MacLeod or McLaughlin).. i forget who - atrocious effort... you gotta get least a shot off !

Finally, with 13 odd ticks left & UNH controlling we got a whistle. Why on earth Coach (Cronin), would you not call a timeout? The team was on its heels.. you saw it. You have the timeout.. its there to be used...settle the guys, let 'em get a breather.. sigh, well i won't second guess anymore as i really like the guy.

Unless we win or tie tomorrow.. this gm (the lost 1 point) could end up costing us home-ice end of season..

tonight we're sitting in 6th versus 4th place. No one to blame but us. But let's move on - really quick!!!

There's a way to redeem.. got to go for the W tomorrow. Well played UNH.

Huskies got their work cut out. Gotta play gm of the season tomorrow.

G'luck team. Night all

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

Definitely stole a point tonight. I give UNH credit for not giving up, but they didn't play very well. Credit NU somewhat for that, but they had SO many bad passes, and misplayed pucks, it was frustrating to watch, all night.

I actually agree with Cronin not calling a time out. It did backfire in that they scored, but that top line, for UNH, had been out there for a TON of ice time the last few minutes, and if you give them another opportunity to rest, they're fresh. Obviously they scored, but they were gassed... even in OT, they had fought so hard to battle back, they almost looked like they were playing for a tie, not being as aggressive.

Glad to finally get to see the renovated Matthews... the seats are nice, and it looks better. Good job on upgrading a fun place to see a game. Wish there were more fans there tonight!

Quick quesiton, and I thought, for the most part, the officials did an ok job tonight (considering, thanks to the dumb need for 4 refs they have linesmen wearing the armbands now adays), why wasn't Costa tossed for being the 3rd man in when DeSimone and the other NU kid (#4 I think?) were tangled up after the whistle? The d-man checked Desimone considerably after the offsides whistle and DeSimone wrapped him up, and Costa came in and threw a punch. I thought that was an automatic game misconduct for being the 3rd man in, and a DQ for throwing a punch and he just got 2 for roughing and somehow #4 got a grabbing the facemask minor.. That whole sequence didn't make sense to me (?)

Re: New Hampshire vs Northeastern 2/26, 27

what a dissapointing finish to what would have been an amazing win for us.

I'm sorry WildShawn but I thought the officiating was miserable tonight. I'm ok with the goal being called back. I'm ok with the 2-man advantge (though the first call was questionable) but I counted a few times when icing was called against us when you could CLEARLY hear/see a man touching the puck on it's way down. The refs were also too quick to blow the whistle, I watched a bobbling puck in the UNH goal as the whistle was blown...

Great play for 40 or 50 minutes of hockey, NU, but you have to finish strong! Good comeback UNH, congrats. I thought Rawlings saved us a few times at the end, and the equalizing goal wasn't his fault. The third goal was pretty tough to watch though. Unlucky bounce, but Chris buddy you gotta be ready for those!

Oh well... I'm going to hope this lights a fire for our NU boys, who will be looking for a big win to fight for home ice. We shall see. Anyone students heading up north tomorrow? I'm considering it, but not sure if I got any buddies to bring up with me..

The whistle was blown too quickly when the puck was loose in front of each goaltender a couple of times tonight, and the icings were bad both ways (there was a sequence where Butler tipped the puck and they still called icing and then 30 sec later, NU iced it with no one near it and they waved it off... I agree with WS that it was decent overall. I wasn't sure about that 2 on 1 situation, at least they both got something and UNH ended up a man up out of it...
