  • The USCHO Fan Forum has migrated to a new plaform, xenForo. Most of the function of the forum should work in familiar ways. Please note that you can switch between light and dark modes by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right of the main menu bar. We are hoping that this new platform will prove to be faster and more reliable. Please feel free to explore its features.

New format fixes and workarounds

If there's a better place for these let me know.

1. Where do you specify that threads default to most recent post first? Yes, I'm logged in.

2. Where do you strip out as much of the fluff (avatars, signatures, all customization by users with the aesthetic sensibility of chimpanzees from Bayonne, New Jersey) as possible?

3. Where do you strip down the view to as simple and clean as possible given the default looks like a web designer threw up on the screen?

1. go into the 'account' section of your profile. Check the 'recent activity' button.
2. Same. You will see the things to check or not.
3. No clue. I think this is it.

2. is supposedly upper right name --> User Settings --> Account but even after the lame mandatory fields that have nothing to do with your changes are filled in there is no effect.

make sure you save your changes. red button at the bottom.

It also appears that threaded view, which sucks for anyone over the age of 9, is the default, though I imagine that is customizable somewhere assuming customization works at all which for the present it appears not to.

Ok. To do 1, it's click on your name on the upper right-user settings-account-display mode-check the 'latest activity' button.

For 2, it's the same, except you'll see the boxes to check or uncheck for 'show signatures' etc.

Click the 'save changes' red button at the bottom when you're done.

So far Latest Activity only seems to move you to the last page of the comments but they still read older-to-newer. It's better that the Posts view but it doesn't actually go to the oldest unread post as far as I can see.

Customizing settings does work, with the following hassles:
1. You have to put in your pwd each time, OK, fine but in that case don't present a greyed out pre-formatted field because that will fail
2. For me at least you have to specify (2x) your email because the username autopopulates the first field
3. Upon acceptance of changes it stays on the Account Settings page and gives no indication that the changes have committed. That's bad behavior but at least it commits.

All of those are nits, though. At least it's all doable except for reversing the flow of posts.

Is it true that taking the forum down for the day was another attempt to silence Chuck Murray from imparting his truths?!?!!?!

I am seeing posts in reverse with Latest Activity. Must be a user error on yours.

What happens when you Reply? I see where I was confused, now. Latest Activity does reverse post order which is great. But when I reply it puts my reply on the bottom of the screen, out of order. That's why I thought it was threaded view, which, happily, it isn't. Doing a refresh puts everything in the proper reverse order. It's just a bug not a design choice. I can live with that.

And to the Mod who tagged my OP. Yeah, I'll concede that.

Is there a way to get the main page to show more than 10 threads at a time? I see the option to change the number of posts visible in a thread, but not number of threads visible...

Who thought this was a good look and an improvement for the forum?

Or likewise, who took a boatload of cash from some idiot programmer to use their crappy code for their website?
