New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

Not a bad idea IMO.

Eight of the (presumably) top teams in college hockey, all playing in the Twin Cities on the same weekend... you run the risk of upstaging the Frozen Four. Oh, and bar fights, there's that risk too. :)

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

Of course changing sponsor names and logos on the ice overnight would be near (if not) impossible. It just seems like a logistical nightmare, and probably not worth it to the X to try to put together.

Obviously from a fan (and bar/restaurant) point of view it would be fantastic to see that much hockey in one weekend.

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

Big Ten: should rotate between St. Paul and Detroit. Attendance would be good in St. Paul and will be the preferred site for money, but I really don't imagine it going over well with other fans if it is held in St. Paul every year, but then again when does the B1G care about fans over money? How we got into this mess...

WCHA: Mariucci?

NCHC: Xcel, and Pepsi Center rotating (more often than not it should be in St. Paul for attendance). The Ralph and Omaha (Qwest/Century link Center?) would be good places to see a game, but are not neutral locations and I'd rather drown myself than have to take a vacation to either for a weekend.

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

Not necessarily sharing the venue. The NHC would get the gate Thursday, Big 10 get the gate Friday. You could have the NHC Championship game at 1 on Saturday and the Big 10 Champ game at 7 or 8. Two gates. For the good of college hockey. Yes. I know the Big 10 is greedy and is only looking out for their own good, but college hockey has always been a close knit community and I could see this being pulled off.

Ok, I like the idea of both tournaments being held in St. Paul, actually I love it. But screw that. If it happens, B1G plays the Thursday game since it's only Minnesota that will really have fans in attendance anyways. NCHC has many more fans that will make the trip from the various schools, but on a Thursday? The B1G is already isolating most of its conference fans anyways if it's held in St. Paul every year, they can play the Thursday game... IF this were to happen and the B1G does take all the prime time, that just supports my theory that the B1G is trying to screw all of college hockey besides its own, all in the name of money.

Do you really see the Big Ten agreeing to anything that doesn't include it getting the prime time games?

WCHA: Mariucci?

Right size and good location. A bitter pill to swallow for neWCHA members though, and likely to be occupied over conference championship weekend. I'd rather have an NHL sheet too, personally.

The Resch Center (Green Bay) and the Van Andel Arena (Grand Rapids, MI) are the recurring entries in the New WCHA thread, with the Resch seeming more popular. Both have hosted WCHA/CCHA and NCAA events before, both are nice facilities, and both are relatively close to a number of teams in the neWCHA.

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

What about NHC plays their semifinals Thursday night, the Big 10 plays Friday night and the championship games are Saturday? All at the X? The WCHA currently occupies all three nights. I think that could work and could get hockey nuts to go for all three nights.

This would be phenomenal.

Re: New/Adjusted Conference Tournaments

If home-ice is an issue hold the NCHC in Omaha once Blais leaves... How often will UNO be in it anyways?

That's it. That's a nobrainer
