NCHC dominance

7 of 10 last champions are NCHC. Why do we not talk about how dominant this conference is? Playing DU, ND, UMD and now WM 4 times a year is a gauntlet most people do not want to acknowledge as the gauntlet it is. NONE of the hockey podcasts I listen to even venture into this and still spend so much time talking about useless big ten and east coast teams.

You bring up a good point. But I wouldn't go so far as to claim B1G and other conferences are useless, I hate eating my words in the future.......

I'm resurrecting my crappy old thread. Anybody betting against NCHC from going 8 for 11 this year? Go ahead...take your highly ranked, hardly tested MI teams. I'll take the NCHC yet again. It was nice to finally hear a little love on the podcast for what must be about the first time ever. Dogs just won 5-2, saw the Northern Lights two nights this week in Duluth, got the weekend off and have a cold Caribou Lake by my computer. Life is good. GO Bulldogs and keep crushing it NCHC!!

It's NCHC time again!! I hope that UMD, DU, UND and WM get put in four separate regions in the tournament just because if they do I think we'll have an all NCHC final four. You betting against it? Anybody betting against Denver right now? Against UMD with best line in the country, top five pp and penalty kill and Gajan playing lights out??!! I'm pulling for UMD first and NCHC going 8 for 10 after that.

This is all old thinking. With the addition of the CHL player all records and National Championships etc. mean nothing but long ago history. This is the first year of the modern era so going forward that's how teams will be remembered.

Sure guy. You stand by this and I'll stand by DU, WM or UMD is gonna win another.

So 717 people (including me) in the USCHO bracket challenge got the first four games right on their bracket. Should be shocking to no one I have the NCHC going 3-0 tomorrow. We'll check in tomorrow night. Of the three NCHC teams playing tomorrow Denver is my lock with WM having the toughest odds against MN St. I think Denver may beat Cornell 5-1. WM got bagged in the selection as a 1 seed having to go to Loveland and inevitably play Denver. I don't see PSU hanging with UMD. Maybe a one score game but probably not.

The last two times CU and DU have played the scores were 2-0 Red, and 2-1 Denver. If it's 5-1 it's with empty night garbage. WMU was the lowest 1 seed, 4th overall, so that's the way the cookie crumbles. CU vs. Penn St. will be thrilling Sunday.

Well this didn't take long to age perfectly. NCHC 4-0. DU 5-0 . That CU vs PSU match sure is gonna be sweet in the etherial multiverse that isn't the reality of NCHC utterly dominating hockey. Of course Denver won 5-0. Anyone should have seen that. I like that the uscho podcast had this as an upset watch. ALL PEOPLE WHO DO NOT WATCH NCHC HOCKEY!! DU is literally NEVER gonna be your bs east coast team upset watch. They will always crush them. They were playing a b-team compared to their NCHC regular season. My bracket is also 8-0 thru round one and it was stupidly easy to pick. NCHC will win followed up by ostensibly 'good' big ten will win but not against NCHC. Oh and QU will win cuz they kinda have or whatever. That's it. 8-0! It is a shame that DU and WM now have to play because outside of maybe UM this frozen four should just be those NCHC top four. So now we move on in a world, that should be surprising to NO ONE anymore, in which half the final 8 are....of course.....NCHC. Later edit: I kinda sound like a jerk here. That UMD win had me all fired up. I'll dial it back. Go Dogs!

Also shout out to the 374 other people (govtslackey) who picked the first 8 games correctly. It was pretty easy picks but congrats non-the less.

As someone who follows Harvard and the ECAC in general, I've been blown away by the speed and skill from the NCHC. We don't see this type of ability in our conference. Our OOC games are generally against Hockey East schools although this season, we hosted Michigan for two games (took them to OT in the second game as we adjusted to their speed and physicality from game one). There are three big differences that jump out at me. 1. End to end speed especially in transition. 2. Forecheck (we don't see that kind of physicality along the boards on a regular basis) 3. Competition. The East has been unusually weak this season but we don't run gauntlets like Denver, WM, NoDak and UMD. So our teams are simply not prepared when it comes time to compete nationally. Dartmouth was as tight as a drum against the Badgers and you could tell it was only a matter of time before Wisconsin prevailed. And I don't know how anyone would have picked Cornell over Denver. Cornell can't play from behind - they don't have the skill to do what Wisconsin did to Michigan State.

2 NCHC vs 2 B1G for the Frozen Four.
We'll see.

Now, the most the Big Ten was going to be able to send was 2, as their 4 teams were in 2 regionals. NaCho had a chance at 3, while still having 1 regional where they'd knock each other out.

I was really hoping for a state of Michigan Frozen Four after the first round with MSU, UM and WMU all having a chance to get there.
