NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

So the WCHA teams have plenty of Big 10 teams coming to their arena? Probably not.

Yeah, I woudl guess that it's going to be pretty even. Just looking at MN teams, the same deal applies for SCSU, UMD, MSU, and BSU. I would imagine the same is going to apply for Michigan teams and Miami. The only thing that's going to change that is if the pairwise formula changes.

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

Hockey East isn't going away, and the Big 10 isn't going to exactly be the CHA either. We're not going to have 6 teams in the tournament every year. More like 3-4. Posts like this are part of the reason for the hatred for our conference.

The WCHA had what, 6 teams in the tournament last year? Why is assuming the new conference, with the teams that will be in it, could have 5-6 teams make it completely ridiculous? Quality teams with quality players are going to be there, regardless of what conference they're in. If you think the new conference isn't going to have that quality, I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.

This year we were lucky to get 1/2 the league in the Tourney. There is no way 3/4 of a conference is going to make the Tourney.

Eric, if you believe everything will remain the same in 10 years then I have a great fishing lake in South Dakota I would like to show you. There are so many unknown things that will happen. What comes to mind would be recruiting, improvement of facilities, possible BiG expansion. The list goes on and on.
Why would I need a great fishing lake in SD, when I have Devils Lake, North Dakota? :p So, do you think some how the rest of college hockey is going dry up and whither on the vine? This season the ECAC proved that you don't need to be one of the self-congratulatory power conferences to win an NCAA title, last time I checked Yale doesn’t have a big time TV deal or that many first round draft choices.

Because someone has to lose conference games which will affect the PWR. It really shouldn't be difficult to understand. The only way we're going to get 6 teams in is if the NCHC damm near runs the table in non conference play. In other words, it's highly unlikely.

The NCHC only schedules those cup cakes to have wins in the home ice rink. Thats how they get six teams in the NCAAs.

Have sexual relations with your sister and that's how you get a pink pony.

It seems they have let hirsch have more and more internet privileges these days...

You realize that none of those teams are getting 1:1 right? His statement was that the WCHA teams have a lot of games against the Big Ten teams. But most of those games are going to be home games for the big Ten. Which is why the NCHC teams wont be playing Big Ten teams much. The Big Ten teams arent willing to give them even scheduling.

I get that. I was actually attempting to support your contention. They are all getting the same deal. I think all of those teams actually are getting almost as good of a deal as a 1:1. The potential for larger crowds and thus a bigger gate are there. Whether that pans out or not, I don't know.

I don't think the WCHA will have that many more games with B10 teams at all. There just isn't the kind of financial advantage for most of the teams. The only B10 team that's a draw for MSU (and I would assume BSU) is Minnesota. I would think the same could be said for the Michigan teams in the WCHA. I just don't see that much of a financial advantage for many of those teams unless the B10 teams are going to really open up their checkbooks.

The key factor for any program where they play is money, upgrades to rinks and tv deals.

As far as the NCHC goes, Duluth's rink is brand new. Miami, Denver, CC are fairly new. And all are terrific facilities. St Cloud is wrapping up renovations to their rink. North Dakota is one of the best hockey facilities at any level. Omaha is about to begin construction on a new on campus barn. Their current facility is outstanding. Other than Lawson Arena at Western, just what rink upgrades are you looking for?

Fortunately, we've got more money than God. ;)

I don't think God has as much money as you think. Every time I see him he's wearing sandals, a tattered robe and between you and me, dude needs a haircut and a shave

Because half of those 6 WCHA teams wont be in the NCHC?

No, but 4 of the teams from the new conference were. Outside of UMD and really UNO every team in the conference was in the mix for making the tournament. I'll recant my statement that the NCHC will have 6 teams in the tournament, but it should easily have 4 if not 5 make it.

I'm sure the NCHC will have 3 or 4 most years with the potential for 2 or 5 depending on how NC goes.

But we have 16 teams make it with the following breakdown:

HEA (12): 3-6
B1G (6): 2-4
NCHC (8): 2-5
ECAC (12): 1-4
WCHA (10): 1-4
AHA (11): 1-2

It seems highly unlikely that any conference is going to get half their teams in going forward except the B1G just because there are only 6 teams and will likely have the most favorable schedules with more home games. The NCHC certainly has a chance at 4 or 5 but 3 seems to be a much more likely number. I think you have to assume that the WCHA, ECAC and AHA will combine for 5-6 teams most years which leave 10-11 spots for HEA, B1G and NCHC. Hockey east is going to have 4-5 most years so that cuts it down to 6-7 spots for B1G and NCHC.
