NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

Despite all this, it sounds like the new league is making good strides with officiating. I guess we wait to see how many guys will be crossing over from any existing leagues to work for Adam. But I already like they will have 3 dedicated Supervisors, which allows many more crews to be supervised. Should be a proactive culture, rather than reactive .... as was the case in the WCHA, with only Greg Shepherd

Baku is beautiful this time of year.
It's the perfect time of the year where the cold north wins are less frequent than the warm southernly winds.

Give it a couple of years. Seriously, look at hockey at all levels, no one is happy with the officiating. It's easy to complain about officiating and easy to talk a big game when nothing has happened yet. Don Adam was widely looked at as a horrible ref and now he's looked at as an officiating savior? Hard to believe.

I personally don't think officiating is generally that big of an issue. It very rarely is. The game is just getting bigger, faster players and legit hits look worse and have the potential to turn dangerous very quickly. Refs very rarely decide games.

 At all levels? NHL officials are widely considered the best officials of any pro sport. WCHA officals were brutal and most coaches in the league complained a lot. The reason they complained is because the league never did anything to make it better. The reason the new league is doing all this is because the programs in the league were sick of the way it use to be. Will the new officaiting be great? No, but over time it should be a lot better than it use to be in the WCHA.

What do you expect them to do? There are fairly stringent requirements for becoming a referee.

It's real obvious from this quote that you did not go to a single CCHA game, or a single ECAC game, because overall the officiating in the WCHA was better than both of those. And though it might not appear that the league did anything to make refereeing better, I know for a fact that they tried hard to do just that.
You might not have been happy with the refs and no one was, but if you think it was so terrible you are dead wrong, no offense. Will it be better in your new conference? maybe, but everyone will still be complaining and then what excuse will you use.?

Bingo. The fact that one of the WCHA's least liked refs is leading it tells you all you need to know.

The reality is even NHL refs get roundly criticized by a healthy amount of people too. Bad ref jobs will still happen in the NCHC no matter how much oversight occurs. Same with BTHC and other leagues. Fans will always point at missed calls, phantom penalties, etc and say the refs are lousy. It is always one of the reactions we see no matter what the sport. Anybody that thinks they will see a vast difference is dreaming.

Have you been watching the NHL playoffs? Or listening to the commentary about officiating during it?

You could replace WCHA in your paragraph with any of the other college hockey leagues and many people would agree. I see it every year near the end of the season from 3-4 different leagues.

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

Maybe there won't be much actual change, we don't know that yet.
And yes there will be *****ing by fans, that will never stop, but at the very least, the NCHC looks like they are trying to make some changes, which is more than could ever be said for the WCHA.

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

I'm excited for the American Idol style fan voting at the end of each weekend to kick one ref out of the league

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

That was the strangest NCHC announcement ever. No press conference to announce the press conference to announce the date of the coming announcement? I'm not sure I like how the new NCHC just announces things. Can you go down the tubes before you even start?

Unorganized and lack of leadership

Re: NCHC Commish hits the road before first game

I can't even work up any hatred or comedy about the NCHC anymore. I just feel for the teams that got suckered into it.
