NCAA today, NHL tomorrow

mookie1995

there's a good buck in that racket.
John McCarthy was called up to SJ this past weekend, becoming the 4th player who helped the terriers win the title last year who has now skated in the NHL this season (Matt Gilroy-nyr, Colin Wilson-nas, Brandon Yip-col).

now i believe the 05-06 Pios had three guys skate in the NHL the next season, and wondered if any of you know off hand if you've have similar teams that had a number of players leave the classroom one year and go to coaches corner the next?

The 2005-2006 Badgers had Burish, Pavelski, and Gilbert in the NHL the next season. In total that championship club has had 9 play in the NHL - including the previous 3, there's Earl, Skille, Dowell, Piskula, Drewiske, and Elliott.

Re: NCAA today, NHL tomorrow

The DU 2004/05 team had Carle (SJ, TB, PHI), Stastny (CO) and Gauthier (LA) all play in the NHL in the 2005/06 season with Carle and Stastny becoming regulars right away. Additional players on that team who didn't leave after 2004/05 but have or are playing in the NHL are Butler (BUF) and Mannino (NYI). So 5 players off of the 2005 championship team have NHL experience with 3 becoming regulars in Carle, Stastny and Butler.

There are an additional 10 players off of that team that are still playing minor league hockey and haven't made it to the NHL; Dingle, Mullen, Veideman, May, Paukovich, Fast, Trotter, Thomas, Testwuide and Fisher. Two additional players had short minor league careers and have retired; Corbin and Handza.

Mookie, I was talking with a friend about this topic just this afternoon. I knew there were several from the 90-91 team that reached the NHL the next year, but didn't remember whether the three US Olympians (McEachern, Lachance, Tkachuk) were among them. Had to check hockeydb.com.

Four other members of that team also reached the NHL, but not the next season: David Sacco, Phil von Stefenelli, Doug Friedman and Nick Vachon. Vachon played just one game in the NHL and, of course, is better known for his role as Clark, the Canadian Hockey Goalie.

Re: NCAA today, NHL tomorrow

Michigan had four from its 2006-07 underachieving team...

Jack Johnson finished the college season and played a few games for the Kings in 2007. Then played 74 games in the 07-08 NHL season.

Andrew Cogliano also finished his second year at Michigan, then played a full schedule in 2007-08 with Edmonton.

TJ Hensick graduated in 06-07 and played 31 games for Colorado in 2007-08.

Matt Hunwick graduated in 06-07 and played 13 games on the Bruins defense in 07-08.

RPI '85 had the following in 85-86: Oates (Det), Nienhuis (Bos), Friday (Det), Hammond (LA) (played a couple of games for LA late in 84-85 also), and Puppa (Buf).

Others later: Servinis, Carter, and Dark

NMU graduated ZERO to the NHL for the 91-92 season. Most of the guys who went to the NHL did so after 92-93.

BC's 2000-2001 team put 3 into the NHL the following season... gionta, kolanos, clemmensen.

they were followed by kobesaw, guiliano, allen, orpik, and scuderi
