Breaking-out my popcorn on this one...![]()
So, if this was the end of the year, Oswego/Plattsburgh, and Norwich/castleton all would get in, leaving Elmira as the last pool C team?
As of right now it looks like they would take two ECAC W teams in pool C over Castleton. The only way I see Castleton possibly sneaking in is if they can sweep Skidmore this weekend and get to the ECAC E championship. Even if that happens they still might not get the pool C bid unless those ECAC W teams fall. In my opinion, Castleton has to win the ECAC E championship, giving them an automatic bid to get in, otherwise they will get snubbed like last year.
The good/bad thing about the West is that yes getting all 5 in is a good thing, but now that hurts there W/L vs Ranked opponents even more. Had one of those West teams gone undefeated (or somewhere close to it) it would have helped them. With another weekend left and at least one more game vs ranked opponent in the playoffs its still up in the air.
How come Norwich's region record on the NCAA site is listed at 15-2-1? They are leaving out 4 wins, but they haven't played any Western teams.
Utica and Castleton have also been shorted 1 and 3 regional wins, respectively, despite not playing any teams from the West.![]()

Norwich played some DII teams which don't count
Games against DII schools (aka Northeast-10) do not count as DIII games for this purpose.
OSWEGO 6-2-1
NORWICH 5-0-1
AMHERST 5-3-1
PLATTSBURGH 5-1-4
ELMIRA 10-6-0
MANHATTANVILLE 6-5-2
UTICA 6-7-2
CASTLETON 1-4-0
BOWDOIN 5-2-1
NEUMANN 5-7-2
MIDDLEBURY 4-6-1
HOBART 4-6-1
WESLYAN 3-6-0
WILLIAMS 1-5-3
FREDONIA 1-7-0
If I have this right...
Code:OSWEGO 6-2-1 NORWICH 5-0-1 AMHERST 5-3-1 PLATTSBURGH 5-1-4 ELMIRA 10-6-0 MANHATTANVILLE 6-5-2 UTICA 6-7-2 CASTLETON 1-4-0 BOWDOIN 5-2-1 NEUMANN 5-7-2 MIDDLEBURY 4-6-1 HOBART 4-6-1 WESLYAN 3-6-0 WILLIAMS 1-5-3 FREDONIA 1-7-0
A couple thoughts:
I think Norwich and Castleton both get hurt by the fact that they have to play 4 D2 games. If they can't figure out a solution after this 2-year buffer period or whatever, I hope that the league lets them go. As much as I hate the fact that two teams might be left in the cold, it just doesn't make sense to play 4 games that don't count. Imagine if Norwich and Castleton were able to play 4 more non-league games against good teams and went 3-1 or 4-0, we'd be looking at Norwich as #1 and Castleton ahead of the ECAC-W teams thanks to WIN and RNK. Now, I know it could also backfire if you went 1-3 or 0-4 in those non-league games, but at least they would count. I'd rather see my team play games that count and take their chances.
Bowdoin could still sneak up on the ECAC-W teams if they go 4-0 then lose to Amherst in the finals. Either that, or another team beats Amherst in the tourney and Amherst gets the Pool C. I don't know why, but I just have a strange feeling that somehow the NESCAC is going to get two teams in.
