NCAA 1st Round: Which Saint is better - Thomas or Norbert?

Re: NCAA 1st Round: Which Saint is better - Thomas or Norbert?

MW4Bucky

"Especially with a long 5 on 3, St. Thomas needed to come out of that first period with at least a 2 goal lead to have a good chance because I knew we'd seen St. Thomas' best shot and I thought SNC would get things going as the game went on. "

Tell us how you knew this????
You could tell that SNC was getting it going in the later part of period one. UST had their best scoring chances of the game in the opening period.
Killing off the first period 5x3 penalty was big for SNC.

you other two, stay out of it. Again, how would you KNOW you'd seen UST best shot (by the end of the first period when the rest of the game hadn't been played yet)?

You'll have to accept my apology because I had long moved on to the Gustavus-SNC game and had no idea you were waiting on a response until after Toe Blake's Brother tipped me off after the game tonight. If you think I am making it up that I said it pete99race and Toe Blake's Brother can testify.

To answer your question thoughtfully, 2 reasons. 1) I've watched this happen many times to skilled finesse teams who missed their window of opportunity against an SNC squad who got off to a slow start. When they got it going they simply wore those teams down. 2) I have a certification in human behavior and I observe people.

Re: NCAA 1st Round: Which Saint is better - Thomas or Norbert?

you said you knew you'd seen UST best shot (in the first period). But, you probably have never seen UST play this year so how would you know? UST is not a skilled finesse team. But you know SNC. Post on what you know.

MW4Bucky knows who won on Wednesday night.

Maybe a team that you consider to be a physical, bruiser type team in the MIAC, wouldn't be considered so in the NCHA.

I got to believe that you are taking this a little too personally.
Our veteran group of SNC fans (MW, TBB, myself, among others) have seen nearly 200 SNC home games at the CCC.
We all had a good sense of how the Knights would respond to the early pressure that UST applied.
The winning formula is to apply a heavy, physical forecheck, which results in scoring opportunities in the offensive zone.
As a result, the opponent has fewer chances in our zone to score.
The Tommies always give SNC a good fight, but on this particular night, SNC was the better team for 60 minutes.

Just to start off, I like both of these teams, even though I want the team I root for to win over them come March.

Gonna guess when you have a 3 minute power play(in the first period of a 1-0 game), and one minute of it is a 5 on 3, you will have seen the best that team has to offer. If that wasn't their best effort at that time, I'd really have to wonder why they didn't put it forward yet.

you wouldn't KNOW you'd seen their best shot (effort) until the game is OVER. I've watched UST in most every game this year and I couldn't say after the first period was done that that would be their best shot/effort for the game. They played really well that first period but how would I know if they couldn't come out and play even better in the second and then even better than that in the third? But the SNC fans can somehow predict the future.

Re: NCAA 1st Round: Which Saint is better - Thomas or Norbert?

You seem more interested in venting or arguing semantics so I'm probably making a mistake here, but I'll bite. Of course there was potential for me to be wrong. If I could predict sports with 100% certainty I wouldn't have a real job and I wouldn't be here talking to other people who did as well. I'd just make millions gambling occasionally and do whatever I wanted the rest of the time. It all comes down to interpreting what you see and having the feeling. I guess the question in the end was whether it played out as I envisioned. I'd submit it did based on the result but if you have a different view pointing to how wrong I was you are welcome to share and enlighten me.
