Nat'l Semis: UW-Stevens Point vs. Salve Regina

Re: Nat'l Semis: UW-Stevens Point vs. Salve Regina

Pointers vs. Seahawks...

I have no idea what to expect in this game. I've watched most of the Seahawk games this year and when they are playing up tempo and applying pressure they are tough to beat. The Codfish Tournament is the only common opponent I think and they beat the Bulldogs after they were swept by UWSP. I am pulling for the Seahawks hard in this one, I expect it to be a close game that will be determined by goaltending and special teams. Salve 3-2

Point has an excellent forward group....very quick and good fore checkers...take a look at the first period from their game last Saturday night vs. Adrian..
Their game is well suited for the big sheet at Lake Placid...
Will be a fun game to watch, before we square off with Colby..

Pretty sure Billings is one of the 8 players on salve that were also recruited by Norwich that ended up picking Salve over NU.

Interesting. Why did such a large contingent choose little known and little proven (at the time) Salve Regina over a known power Norwich?

No argument there lol

I know the program well, Salve only gives Academic based grant money and financial Aide based on need like most schools. Not sure if you have ever been to Newport, but the campus is one of the most beautiful in the country, situated right on the Atlantic Ocean. The talent level across D3 hockey has increased everywhere, and the decision the spend 4 years on the ocean instead if the mountains of VT is an easy one for some. Additionally a few years ago, Salve finally made the Head Hockey Coach a full time salaried position. Up until then it was a 12k per year position. This had the biggest impact.

Do they still play in that dump-of-a-rink?

Last I knew goals scored determined the better team, not shots on goal. Go CCC!

Stevens Point is a very good team and certainly had more offensive chances, but Salve had the better goaltender tonight and played very disciplined hockey throughout the game and stick to the game plan of not being overly aggressive. In addition to the saves they probably had 20 blocked shots too.
