National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

In fairness, he did originally say "in the last 50 years". Michigan had 6 before 1964, 7 before 1965.

Yeah, I must have missed that because I don't really care, but history really doesn't matter much in sports. As an RPI fan I like to rib Union for pretty much being a doormat most of their existence, but in all frankness and honesty we have our own program issues over in Troy to sort out.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

They have two in the last fifty... selective time-frames help them feel better about being the losingest team in NCAA tournament hockey. They also count imaginary titles.

Losingest team in NCAA history??? LMAO, ok, I'm a sucker for hearing a dumbash out. Lets hear your evidence for justifying such a dumbash comment, lol.

Btw, UMn has more WINS in NCAA history than any other school in the nation, and the most wins in the last 50 years as well. And you were saying?!

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Maybe take this into the Gophers thread since your bragging on the same night you were outclassed for the title is irrelevant to this thread

9 seconds into the OT has to be considered fluke. Didn't say lucky or undeserved. Yale was obviously a good team, seeing as they went on to win the title, but no other team challenged them and came as close to beating them as did the Gophers.

Maybe the use of the word "fluke" was not the best, but I just don't know what other way to describe it?
But that's probably just tArrogance coming through, right?!

You must have forgotten how the Gophers had to fight for their life to tie the game and send it to OT because they were down 2-0 with under 10 minutes left.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Simple, historically, UMn is

#1 in NCAA tourney invites
#1 in NCAA tourney wins
#1 in players sent to the NHL
#1 in players sent to the US Olympic team, and its not even close
#1 in players inducted into US Hockey Hall of Fame, and its not even close

Over the last 50 years, UMn's

#2 in # of Natl titles won
#1 in # of Natl Championship Game Appearances
#1 in # of Frozen Four Appearances
#1 in # of NCAA tourney Appearances
#1 in # of NCAA tourney wins
#2 in # of Hobey Baker winners, only Univ of Minnesota-Duluth has more.
#1 in # of players sent to NHL
#1 in # of players sent to Olympics
#1 in # of players sent to US Hockey Hall of Fame

Yet for some reason people still seem to think we are supposed to be embarrassed about something????

wow.

And all of that is separate and not including our Women's Hockey program which is ALSO #1 in almost every single category known to man that can be measured.

Yeah, that's embarrassing that they were able to come back from being down by 2 in only 10 minutes. lol

You forgot #1 in homegrown hockey players! ;)

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

No but for you to say them winning is a fluke is total bullcrap. They were never losing in that game.

Well, you can take the word "fluke" as an insult, or you can take it to mean simply unusual, not normal. It's not only rare, its almost absolutely unheard of, that a goal is ever scored in the first 9 seconds of a period, whether a regular season 1st, 2nd or 3rd period, or an OT period. It's just VERY VERY rare, or as I put it, a fluke.

I meant no offense. Yale was obviously a very good team. But that doesn't change the fact that UMn was probably very easily arguably one of the Top 4 teams in the nation that year, we just got unlucky to have to play a hot and on fire Yale team, who scored an unusual, or rare type or "flukey" kind of goal.

Deny it if you so please. I would if I were you. Sh1t, as good as our resume is otherwise, why in the hell would you want to give us any more credit?! lol

Is there another team with 30 losses in the NCAA tourney?

And it's a fluke for a team down 2-0 to come back and tie it on the last 10 minutes. So it cuts both ways. But the best team in the country doesn't lose to the 15th seed in the tournament. You lost in the first round of the tourney, you lose all rights to claim you were one of the best teams.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

I think this goes without saying, but shut the **** up fredsdeadfriend. You are a complete embarrassment to the team and the school and you're making the rest of the gopher fans out there look like complete asstards.

Congrats union. You deserved it. We'll be back next year looking for redemption.

What? You aren't proud that he's basically calling the 2002 title a fluke? :p

Congrats on a great season. And no worries about deadfriend - he's hardly unique. These people show up every year around this time. Usually they either leave or stick around and learn perspective.
