National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

You should be proud.

I am. Which is exactly what I said. If you'd set aside your bitterness towards me for a second, you'd see that.

The only reason people are mentioning losing players and playing freshmen is because that set expectations low for this Gopher team coming into this season. And they exceeded expectations. It's not "making excuses", it's recognizing an achievement.

Had the Gophers lost in the title game last season, I would have been proud, and disappointed, but not really surprised they made it that far. Before this season began I had no expectation that we'd even make the tournament for sure, let alone get this far. I think it's noteworthy that the Gophers made it this far with such a young roster.

As disappointed as I am, I came here and offered my congratulations and complimented Union fans on their team and their season. Sorry if I won't also follow your guidelines for showing pride in my team

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Nobody cares if you lost players.

Just like us, your program chooses to recruit those guys and you live with the consequences - both good and bad.

Didn't you get 3 years out of some of those 5?

It was a good season. You should be proud and the Gophers will most likely be favorites next year - and better for this experience.

Don't cheapen it with excuses that are nothing more than year to year reality for programs like Minny and Wisconsin.

Cheapen it? We lose players to the NHL regularly, which we are the #1 provider to, and the Olympics, again which we are the #1 provider to, yet we STILL rank

#1 in # of Championship Game appearances over the last 50 years,
#1 in # of Frozen Fours UMn has appeared in over the last 50 years,
#1 in # of NCAA tourney appearances for UMn over the last 50 years,
#1 in # of wins in NCAA tourney play for UMn over the last 50 years,
#1 in # of US Hockey HOFers produced by UMn over the last 50 years,
#1 in # of US Olympic team members produced by UMn over the last 50 years,

And yet we are STILL #1 in # of players we've sent to the NHL, with over 100 now all-time, and they are doing quite well in the NHL if anyone cares, with 4 former Gophers among the Top 25 scorers in the NHL this season.

So NO ONE CARES that we had 5 underclassment leave early last year?!

LMAO.

Like your team has EVER had that many leave early only to see your team make the NCAA Title game the next year. NOT!!! Nobody cares because you don't have anything to compare to it. It's that simple.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

"prevents arrogance"??? Why would sending 5 underclassmen to the NHL and then STILL ending up in the Championship game the next season make us feel like we need to be humble?! lol

I'm feeling MORE ARROGANT than I've felt in a long time!!!!

The team that just barely beat us on a fluke goal last year in OT, went on to win the Title?! What does that say about how good we were last year? Then we lose all we did?!

Dude, arrogance is thinking that flying under the radar and finally winning your first ever Natl Title means you are the Sh1t.

I'm serious dude, your Dutchman were an incredible team, clearly the best in the nation this year. VERY and absolutely deserving of your Natl Title, but good luck with being able to maintain that status in the future. From here on out guys, the NHL is going to treat you like they do the Gophers and Souix and BC and BU and Badgers and Wolverines. They are going to rape your roster, they are going to pluck all of your best players and you are going to be thrown into disarray, and recruiting from here on out is going to have to adapt, or you will fall back into the pack and be talked about as that one hit wonder program.

Now when you recruit a player, other programs will actually take notice and may try to steal that player away, unlike before when they thought to themselves, "its only Union, if that's who wants them, they can't be that good, lol".

Lots of programs have won 1 or 2 Titles in the past, but are they still around or in any way still relevant?!

I like Union, I hope they are still around and relevant in 10 years, but until I see it, you could be another Miami of Ohio, UM-Duluth or Yale. Here one day and gone the next.

UMn's always been there, from the beginning, and is still there, and always will be. Welcome to "tArrogance".

TL;DR

Why don't we let the future happen before we attempt to predict it all using a crystal ball?

Congrats! You're that champs of everything except winning the championship.

LOL

What's i the water over there?

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Well, as ancient as it may be, RPI has the same # of Natl Titles and Frozen Fours as Union. I'm guessing in a year or two that Union will totally have RPI's #, but for now, can't say you have a ton of ground to stand on? I mean, sure, we live in world where most people have ADHD, and/or don't remember what happened last year, but the reality is still there in the record books.

RPI has two national titles and I believe just as many FF appearances (the two where we won the title, and once where we finished "third", possibly more appearances but I would have to look that up).

Also, to Dutchman, what does "engineering school" have to do with class? I went to RPI and there was plenty of social things to do besides "taking drugs and masturbating". What's there to do at Union that's so much more exciting? I liked majoring in engineering and making a good life for myself, thank you very much. I've seen your posts elsewhere on USCHO and other things from your Disqus, and it doesn't surprise me that you'd say such things like this considering most of what you say is off the deep-end. You're probably the only one who hopes that RPI "goes back to Division III or joins the AHA", and that RPI is a "sickening embarassment", if I remember correctly we handed you one of your six season losses at the Times Union Center this season and we've had some solid seasons recently, including the last one where we beat Union in the regular season. I can't think of any other ECAC fanbases, including the majority of Union's, that doesn't want us here and playing.

You keep bringing up RPI for literally no good reason, and yet you're part of the Union crowd that claims RPI fans are obsessed with the Union program...?

You want a really poor imitation of college hockey? Look at your own team not more than six or so seasons ago. Better keep your comments in check before they come back to haunt you.

End rant. I usually wouldn't respond to such idiocy but sometimes it must be corrected.

Oh really?! lol

Our 5 Natl Titles and 18 Frozen Fours in the last 50 years is inferior to whose resume???

Bring it my man, last 50 years, what school can compare?!

And we don't have to bring the woman's program into it and make it even more of an unfair advantage for the Gophers.

lol

Dude, people get paid to predict the future, like UMn grad David Passig. He's listed as a "Futurist". lol but you rip on me for predicting the future?! I'm not so bad at it. I predicted the 4 WCHA teams making the NCAA Frozen Four that year, honestly. lol Not all predictions need a crystal ball, some only need some simple common sense.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Michigan, NoDak, Denver, Wisco... who am I missing?

LMAO. seriously?! lol Michigan has a total of TWO titles and 12 FFs.

Denver?! Really? wow, you really are out of touch, aren't you. DU has just 9 FFs.

UND is close, with same # of titles, 1 fewer CGA and 1 fewer FF.

Wisco? They have 12 FFs in the last 50 years compared to 18 for UMn.

12 vs 18?! That's 50% more.

So again, I'll ask, over the last 50 years, what team has a resume that compares?!

BTW, how the frick do you include Mich and DU and not mention BU and BC?! Wow!!!

BU/BC are by far, along with UND, the teams that come closest to comparing to UMn over the last 50 years.

Michigan has nine titles. You should probably stop talking before you embarrass yourself further.

9 seconds into the OT has to be considered fluke. Didn't say lucky or undeserved. Yale was obviously a good team, seeing as they went on to win the title, but no other team challenged them and came as close to beating them as did the Gophers.

Maybe the use of the word "fluke" was not the best, but I just don't know what other way to describe it?

Some people might describe it as terrible hockey. Others might call it a downright embarrassment
