National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Welcome Union, to the Elite Club of Elite College Hockey programs. Multiple FFs, 2 in the last 3 years, and a Natl Title and a well earned Natl Title! Beat perennial Power BC and a team that ranked #1 for most of the season Minnesota on your way to your Title. Don't let anyone, EVER, say you aren't worthy. Union was the one team I didn't want to see in the Final, but honestly I was just happy to be in the Final with you guys. I might get stripped of my right to claim "tArrogance" come next season for saying that, but after losing all of the underclassmen we lost last year, I am not ashamed of admitting as much.

And don't get me wrong, not trying to take anything away from your program, you guys are FOR REAL. I'd say you have arrived, and I don't see you disappearing either, my guess is you guys will be around for a long time. What's your coaches name?! I need to remember his name for future discussions of best coaches in the game.

Now I hope we don't lose too many to the NHL, and if we don't, we might get some revenge next year!!!

Congrats to Union, but Yale's run last year was more difficult, 3 seed winning it all vs. a 15 seed taking out 3 regional one seeds and a two might be considered in your equation. They were a much better all around team than 2013 Yale, but they learned how to win this thing by beating the best in their own league. The ECAC is a league to be reckoned with now.
You had a year to celebrate. Fall back and let this year's champions enjoy it without trying to take a piece of this.

I am pretty anti-Gopher but no one dissed Ferris when they lost the title game. Just because the gophers are a big program doesn't make it okay.

I agree. Minnesota is the epitome of a great, consistent, top line hockey program and should be congratulated for their consistency.

Yeah, Yale's tourney last year was remarkable--that's why I included that last phrase. Just meant to say this club might be the best college hockey team we've seen in a few years. I don't know what their defense is usually like, but they can score with the best.

Well deserved win , Union. Bravo. Awesome season for Gophers that exceeded my expectations. I look forward to next year.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Union kicked Minnesota's butt up and down the ice. Congrats.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Congrats to Union, you guys have a great team and deserved to win tonight.

Enjoy

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

This was a great tournament from the time they released the bracket.

Congrats Union, and also to BC, Minnesota, and North Dakota, who all played like they belonged this weekend.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Thank you union first keeping BC from getting number 6 and tonight Goofers no number 6, the hockey gods got it right tonight. :D

Tipsy, I have always found that any statement that begins with an apology (no offense) turns out to be something that gets a rise out of another. That said, if you had bothered to read my other posts concerning Union, I have been supporting them all the way, including lending my support in person in Philly! I think my statement was more about the rise of the ECAC rather than who was a better champion, and I think the statement They were a much better all around team than 2013 Yale might support my argument. Great game by Minnesota, it was actually much closer than the score.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Thomas Edison... next? :D

Sorry, can't claim Thomas Edison, or Isaac Newton or Albert Einstein. But Ernest Lawrence, William Stout, Reynold Johnson, Seymour Cray, Robert Gilruth and Alfred Nier is not exactly tiddly winks when talking about the greatest minds of all-time, and I've not even mentioned our Nobel Peace Prize Winner Norman Borlaug who is credited for feeding BILLIONS, or our Transplant guy Norman Shumway who is the acknowledged Godfather of Heart & Lung Transplantation.

Names so far unmentioned

Lillihei,
Bakken,
Wangensteen,
Tuve,
Barnard,
Ackerman,
Kolthoff,
among others.

And Congrats Union, couldn't have happened to a better program. It was hard to cheer against you guys.

Re: National Championship: Union vs. Minnesota (Choaches stay out of it!)

Yes it was, until #6 and the ENG. Take a deep breath, and go get a new glass Scooby :D

No, it wasn't. A two goal lead that late isn't close. Union never giving up the lead after they got it isn't close. Every time Minnesota got it to one Union scored the next goal. It wasn't that close.

All teams in the ECAC can only hope that Ghost goes to Philly. I found seeing this Union team four times in person this year was that they pass like a pro team, no standing around and waiting to set a play, get the puck and go. I also think we are seeing that it does not matter how many draft picks your team has, it is actually how many of them hang around to make a difference for 3 or 4 years.

Wait... I thought Minnesota had like 47 championships. I know I read it somewhere. ;)

Congratulations Union. You were the best team in the 2013-2014 season and earned/deserved the National Title!

A one goal game that late is close. Goal 6 came when the Gophers were pressing to tie things up and when there was nothing to lose.

The funny thing is, Union usually has excellent defense, and they play a very disciplined system that gradually takes over the game. Tonight was just bizarre. I'll bet if you told Bennett before the game what the pace was going to be he'd have thought, "oh no."

I'm not at all surprised they won, but I am surprised the way they won. They had numerous incredible individual efforts (I mean, Ghost, JFC, way to time the greatest game of your career!), and they looked like Yale circa 2011 doing it. I'm not really sure what happened, but I'm very happy for them and the ECAC!
