NAHA Labor Day Weekend Tournament

Re: NAHA Labor Day Weekend Tournament

There will always be kids that go D1 and transfer to D3 perhaps because they were over their head.
And students transfer for all sorts of reasons, including many not playing varsity sports. It is tough for us from the outside to judge why a young person moved and whether or not they were "over their head" or just wanted to pursue something else, athletically or academically.

I think you are missing my point. Getting 20 college placements can be a great thing to hype. But how did it play out in college? All have great success? Too many placed over their head?

Nice comment?? Do you ever say anything positive? I don't think I've ever gotten your points!

Are you really saying it's not a great thing for a team/program to have 20 out of 20 girls go D1? Really?

I think there are many factors. Most of these players are still playing and entering their JR years and feel the next two years is when it plays out. I feel many will be strong players for their teams this year. You have to look at where most went. Who they are playing behind? What conference are they in? Does the coach play upper classmen? Did they like the school? etc.etc. Most received full rides and to me that is quite an accomplishment.

Teams that let's say have 5-6 recruits a year will have 1 or 2 superstars and the rest much needed strong role players. Checking lines, PK etc. All very important pieces. EAST1 I think your a WI fan and feel most of your recruits don't become factors until their Jr or Sr years. I'm pretty sure I saw 8-10 WI games last year and they pretty much played 6-8 players 40+ minutes a game. Did it not play out for the other 10-14? Hockey is a team game and all players important.

I think any girl playing D1, D3 or any competitive hockey after HS is a great accomplishment and great success. All players should be proud!

Re: NAHA Labor Day Weekend Tournament

I think that's a negative way to look at a positive thing. Not every kid on a team is going to be a star. Some will put up stats that look underwhelming, and their performance can be easily dismissed. Some of the hardest roles to fill on a team are those where a player may not get a lot of ice time until an injury or other absences move her into the rotation. I have a ton of respect for those athletes that prepare each week and do their best to be ready for an opportunity that may not arise. And I've heard many a star that noted the contributions of such people to the success of the team, in some cases by just working hard in practice and pushing those above them. Don't be too quick to write off players and conclude that they were over their head.

Second that. Recently watched the movie Rudy, and it is a great example of a practice player pushing the rest of the team to be better in many ways.

Few years ago, during one of my daughters freshmen year, the practice 3rd string goalie was one of the most liked on the team. She only played one period during the season and got shelled. She was always on the bench cheering on her teammates, and a positive influence. The coach decided to start her in the last game of the season during senior day, with the idea of giving her the first period only. Well she went on to pitch a shutout for a over a period, played the whole game, and ended up recording a tie. One of these great moments that meant a lot to the team.
