Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Best jersey says who? And wasn't the college team that used that emblem funded by a Nazi? That would never fly in Boston.
That's the line, but it's just a line. The guy collected Nazi memorabilia. It's hardly the same thing.

For all of us Hillbilly Hawks fans out there :p

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Haha. Looks like we have the BC version of JDUMB.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Before he played game 6, Bergeron essentially had a nerve in his chest frozen so he would not feel the broken rib. That's why they didn't know he had punctured his lung. Speculation was that the needle caused the lung puncture, but that is not the case because the hole would have been bigger if caused by the needle. One has to wonder how big that needle was. As I understand it, the punctured lung was only discovered because he checked into the hospital. They just speculated (and all we can do is speculate) on Boston radio that if there was a Game 7 it could have been fatal because that hole in his lung would likely not have been found and Bergeron would have insisted on playing. One good hit and that would have been it.

And on the lighter side....big Z at Canobie Lake on a kiddie ride.

This has been portrayed as incredibly depressing but, as we found out this morning, he was with his 4-year old daughter. You just can't see her beside him because he's so huge.

Depressing? Life goes on and the guy still has a ring at last count.

I think it's wonderful. I bet his daughter thought so too.

**** on the haters.

As for Bergeron... I love the tough, almost mythical mentality of hockey players, but that's too far imo.

Sometimes the people around the athletes probably need to step in and protect them from themselves.

Thankfully, there was no game 7.

Hossa was not allowed to play game 6, right? (I'm not sure). yeah, a bulging disk in his spine that left him with no feeling in one leg, yet he wanted to play in the worst way I'll bet.

Shifting gears, there was an interesting vignette with Scotty Bowman after the game Monday. He mentioned that we won his first Cup (out of 13, 9 as coach) at age 39, and his son Stan is the same age now as he was then, and Stan has two.

It was game 3. He did the pregame warmups, took one shot then left the ice. Ben Smith was not suited up for warmups but had to play anyway because Hossa removed himself. I have not heard that anyone told Hossa he couldn't play. Everything I have heard is that Hossa pulled himself out - otherwise why not at least have Smith warm up before the game.

Yeah, there's no history of racism in Boston. None at all. The Red Sox certainly weren't the last baseball team to integrate and everyone in Boston loved Bill Russell.

And that has just exactly what to do with the racism, or lack thereof, in the Blackhawks logo?

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Nothing. It has to do with the assertion that racism "would never fly in Boston."

Hmm...interesting assertion. in the SCOTUS arguments over the Voting Rights Act, it was noted that Massachusetts has the greatest spread between black voter turnout and white voter turnout among all 50 states. Must be something other than racism at work there too. Just coincidence I suppose.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

But SCOTUS just told us there was no more racism.

Not quite, SCOTUS merely told us that there was no more racism discernable in the voting data from the southeastern states. They didn't review any other part of the country.

I put a spam filter in a while ago and now I don't get spam anymore. Guess I can get rid of the filter now.

Anyway, back on topic: Tuukka has quite a mouth on him:

“Why would I be nervous [about a new contract]?” Rask told Comcast Sportsnet. “It would be an ideal situation. I want to play here forever, and hopefully that gets to happen. “I’m not really worried that things are going to fall apart because we can’t make it work. Obviously we’re going to have some talks, but at the end of the day we’re going to leave all the [expletive] aside and make a deal that makes everybody happy.”

A hockey player swearing? I've never heard of such a thing.
