My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

As much as I love to play hockey and watch it, the Stanley Cup playoffs need to end before June. With the number of southern markets, and people looking at summer as the time to be outside, it just doesn't make good sense to play hockey at this time of year.

Tell that to the highest rated Finals ever..;)

I like that the draft is 5 days away an free agency opens in 10. Before we know it football will be here and that'll keep us occupied til the puck drops once again.:)

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Feeling a little detached. Ending almost doesn't seem real.

It hurts, no question...but I like Chicago. Always have. I can live losing to them, there's no hate there. They play the right way and were the better team. Hard to be angry about losing to the better team.

Now had they lost in 2011....well. Whole other story. I'd have multiple broken things in my room.

It was hard to build up dislike for Chicago...certainly nothing like Pittsburgh, Montreal or Vancouver. I wouldn't even rank them as high as New York, Philly or Washington on the dislike scale. Even after last night I wouldn't put them that high. Considering this playoff season should have ended with a loss in game 7 to Toronto in the first round, with subsequent roster moves and perhaps a coaching change, this was a pretty good ride. Boston won 10 of 12 after the remarkable game 7 comeback and was 2 wins away from another Cup. Sweeping Pittsburgh was especially sweet. Now the off-season begins and we'll see what kind of roster moves Chiarelli and Neely can put together even though they are losing $6M off the cap.

From what I've seen, most Hawks fans feel the same way back.

Lots of respect and a bunch of Bruins that we'd take on our team any day.

Jeebus, Lucic is a scary human. What a beast.

For comparison, I can't think of a single Canuck I'd want. Seriously.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Looking at the Bruins is like looking in the mirror. I have mad respect for the Bruins. I love their game.

The Bruins gave up 2 goals in a four game series (including a double OT game) to the Penguins in the Eastern Conference Finals. They gave up 2 goals in 17 seconds last night to lose a chance at Game 7. #ILoveThisGame

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Torts hired by Vancouver (that situation could be funny to watch)
Bryz bought out by Philly

I would love it (for many reasons) if the Rangers got their stuff together and played Vancouver in the finals next year.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Tuukka's starting point for a contract is reportedly 6y/39M. If the Bruins can get him for $6M/year that'll be a big win. I was expecting him to start at 7 per.

I've got a friend of a friend (yeah, sorry) who's relatively in the know who's heard Tuukka can be had for 7 years / $38.5 mil. He likes it here. Now granted, that was before the Pittsburgh series.

He also has said Horton loves it in Boston and would take a discount if he could get 4 years...something like 4 years / $18 mil.

We'll see of course, but if you can get Tuukka for less than 6 and Horton for less than 5, you gotta do both in a heartbeat IMO.

Unless you move other guys, with only $5. million in cap space, something has to give.

With $42 million in payroll expended in their forward corps already, Boston has to let some forwards go ... perhaps Peverly ($3 million) and Marchand ($4.5) to make room for Rask and Horton.

PS Bergeron at $5 million of cap hit is a steal.

They can get $4M back on Marc Savard's contract.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Something like this:

FORWARDS

Milan Lucic ($6.000m) / David Krejci ($5.250m) / Nathan Horton ($5.000m)
Brad Marchand ($4.500m) / Patrice Bergeron ($5.000m) / Tyler Seguin ($5.750m)
Carl Soderberg ($1.008m) / Chris Kelly ($3.000m) / Jared Knight ($0.870m)
Daniel Paille ($1.300m) / Gregory Campbell ($1.600m) / Shawn Thornton ($1.100m)
Jordan Caron ($0.851m)

DEFENSEMEN
Zdeno Chara ($6.917m) / Matt Bartkowski ($0.650m)
Dennis Seidenberg ($3.250m) / Dougie Hamilton ($1.494m)
Adam McQuaid ($1.567m) / Torey Krug ($1.704m)
Andrew Ference ($1.750m) /

GOALTENDERS
Tuukka Rask ($6.000m)
Niklas Svedberg ($1.000m)

------

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $65,560,500; BONUSES: $1,822,500
CAP SPACE (22-man roster): $562,000

Isn't even worst case scenario. Tuukka could well get less than 6 and Horton less than 5. They might be able to move Kelly and his 3 mil. This would require getting rid of Boychuk and Ference taking a discount, but who knows.

Anyone see the twitter post on Condescending Torts last week when rumored about him going to Vancouver....went something like "Ate at a Chinese restaurant and my fortune cookie said "You have Swedish Twins in your future" - I have to be f-ing honest that I had other things in mind."

Instant Classic !!

Ference just said he doesn't expect to be back because of the salary cap.

Re: My Stanley Cup Runneth Over

Chiarelli just said he told Jagr and Pandolfo they will not be offered contracts, and there will be NO buyouts next season.

He also said Bergeron had a "small hole" in his lung to go along with the separated shoulder and broken rib. One wonders how horrible the injury to Hossa must have been to keep him out of the lineup. Must have been nursing a gunshot wound or something.
