MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

Re: MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

I didn't like the article, and that is mostly because of the last quote. The article itself was good, just didn't like Mel's quote.

"The article itself was good" but you "didn't like the article," because of "Mel's quote". Mel's quotes:

<i>"They just want us to be a competitive, winning program," Pearson said about the fans. "I don't think they're asking for a whole lot.
"Just some of the comments I have heard are the games are entertaining and they like the style we're playing.
"We're winning some games and we've done well at home. I think that's the key," he added. "If you can do well at home, win your home games, you give your fans something to feel good about.
"The honeymoon is on still, but the expectations for the future are to have a chance to win a conference championship and to get to the NCAA Tournament.
"With the shift in leagues, I think we will have a chance to do that down the road."</i>

I guess I can understand that, if i were a Tech fan, because he's saying wait until we're in the W/CCHA, then we'll have a chance. But, right now, don't get your hopes up. We'll just try to win at home for you.

Is that what you're saying?

Yeah, that last quote seems harsh...

But with our superior WCHA cellar dweller experience we should be able to crush you CCHA newcomers... ;)

Northern Sucks.

It is a very realistic quote. Number one, rebuilding the program will take some time. Number two, playing in the conference with schools of similar resources and prestige will level the playing field and improve the chance to reach the NCAA for all schools in the conference. He gave a straight up honest answer. Isn't that what you want? Would you prefer an honest, realistic assessment of the program and it's future or would you rather that he blow smoke?

We all know its going to take time, but all of us wanted to see them back in the hunt in the WCHA. I hate the way he makes it sound, like he's thankful for the change otherwise we'd never be good.

Go Huskies. Gotta root for the teams that have beat you to win the non-conference games.

Quit crushing the tMel koolaid! like SG, most of us have been watching the WCHA destroy us for years, I'd have loved to see some revenge on those guys... :(. I'm not saying the new WCHA is a bad thing, in fact I hope Tech can establish itself as one of the leaders. It's just bittersweet... I honestly do look forward to having LSSU and Northern in conference now. That is awesome even though Northern sucks. :P

A classic under-promise-over-deliver statement. IMHO, the season is already a success. Y'all are just getting greedy. I'll be as happy as a tick on a dog if the Huskies have a winning season and finish in the upper half of the WCHA. Have you noticed that Tech is ranked in the 20s this year instead of the 50s? THANK YOU MEL! :D

Judging by the fact that this thread is only on page 6 and not 20 by today... love fest gets my vote.

Grrr... all the cool things happen after I move away... ;)

Re: MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

I've heard a bunch of Tech grads from the late 80's early 90's use that term even though it seems really odd to me...

I was late 80's, so excuse me if my terminology is a bit dated. You guys put together a hal******* little team and get all cocky. We haven't seen this for quite a few years. Hope your battery goes dead tonight and find yourself with a cold walk home, Techers.

Cockiness is what this is? Honestly I had no idea... haven't ever had a reason to be :P

Oh and NMU still sucks.
