MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

Re: MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

Then you need to look at the whole season. The "incident" took place prior to the start of the year. Only the court process and media circus took place later.

It's OK! Fans across the league have been warned. This fan is extremely prepared!

have any of them got their sentences yet? I'm assuming team discipline, suspension lengths, dismissals etc., will wait for the felonies to be sorted out in court first.

Huh?

Was either team playing in '19? Are you real proud of being runner-up to the Gophers in '76?
That should be the first year of hockey for each team.

edit: I believe the first versions of Tech hockey were teams that played against mining company sponsored teams around that time period.

Four Northern Michigan University hockey players pleaded no contest in Marquette County District Court Tuesday to misdemeanors of receiving and concealing stolen property under $200, related to campus bicycle thefts, which occurred in September.

The charge is punishable by up to 93 days in jail and a $500 fine. The no contest pleas were allowed to be entered for consideration of civil issues. All four students are expected to get sentence delays, which means if they abide by terms of a probationary period, the charges will be dropped and they will have no record of the offense.
Meanwhile, charges against three other students affiliated with the team are being dismissed.

Those students included freshmen Dylan Walchuk, 19, Eric Walker, 18, and Ryan Aynsley, 21, all of British Columbia. Walker is no longer with the NMU hockey team and Aynsley is currently not a player.

That's was the first year of official Tech hockey. There had been a team in 1901 and subsequent years that played against random area teams.

1919 vs. 1976

Games Played: 124

NMU WINS: 63

Tech WINS: 48

Ties: 13

GOALS NMU: 480

GOALS Tech: 396

Since 1976, in "modern" college hockey history, the numbers speak for themselves.

Considering how bad many of those Tech teams have been in the last 20 years, I'm not sure you should be so proud of a 63-48-13 record. :p

Thanks to those Tech teams, Northern's win's percentage is better over the last 20 years: Wins 37, Losses 23, Ties 8, then over the last 35 years.

Re: MTU at NMU, Friday, Dec. 16: Our Assistant Coach Can Beat Up Your Assistant Coach

Again, 37-23-8 is not that impressive when you consider that between 1991 and 2011, 11 of 20 Tech teams finished the season with 10 or fewer wins. Most of those teams finished with 8 or fewer wins; two of them were so putrid they were lucky to finish with 4 wins.

In the 68 games between Tech and Northern during that time period, you won 37 times and lost or tied 31 times. Not exactly a dominant performance like it should've been. ;)

.544 may not be dominating; but, thanks for the wins anyway, keeping the balance tipped in NMU's favor.

Seriously, though, I look forward to the two NMU v Tech games this year. They didn't play at the beginning of the season, as they often do, and have had time to work things out in many ways. Northern has definitely had their ups and downs. With Tech "on" this year, I think it will be two hard fought contests.
