Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Maybe it was knowing Carrie Fisher passed but that was the most emotional Star Wars movie yet. The John Williams score packed a punch. I see why Disney gave Johnson the keys to a new trilogy. Exceptional storytelling.

As we were leaving the theater the people awaiting the 10pm show were mostly plugging their ears so as not to hear spoilers (yeah, Simpsons did it). My nephew blurted out, "I can't believe Snoke-" and I cut him off. 'Save it for the car. We don't want to ruin it for these folks.' I got a high-five from a guy in Jedi robes.

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Oh, and if you're thinking the Disney-Fox deal is great because now we'll finally get the original Star Wars trilogy on Blu-Ray, guess again. That version no longer exists in film quality and it is very likely that in his deal with Disney, Lucas got it in writing that even if they acquired the rights and wanted to restore the old film they would never release the unaltered originals. It's CGI Jabba, the embarrassing song sequence on Tatooine and the baddest villain ever created yelping "Noooooo!" like a beaten cur now.

Finally got through all 3:41 of Gone With the Wind on this flight to Korea. Could've been shorter by an hour and still gotten to the point.

Loved Star Wars. In many ways it's my favorite. In some ways it's not. I was very surprised by a lot of things last night.

Hey Citizen Kane is great...if you need to sleep and need something that isnt habit forming ;)

Re: Movies! The Last Jedi: Ragnarok

Well that and one of the biggest plot holes around when that revelation comes about :)

The butler hears him. The butler even explicitly explains he heard him. There is no plot hole; this is a famous myth.

It's really two movies. The first half being a historical drama of the Civil War is great. The second half being about a bickering couple is OK.

That's Seven Samurai. THERE I SAID IT!

There actually is an incredibly boring, overlong Wells film that all critics drool over: The Magnificent Ambersons. It's torture at 3 hours and the original uncut version was well over 4. The studio raped it (of course) and I'm sure Wells' initial vision was far superior, but we only have what we have, and what we have is atrocious.

Fair point.

You could actually improve Gone with the Wind and shorten its runtime by deleting every line of dialog from Ashley or Melanie.

I haven’t seen more than 5 minutes of a Star Wars Film in over 30 years so I rented a flick called the Force Awakens... it was actually a good movie! So I started in on “Rogue One”... meh. I might finish it when I retire.

Ironic that on a day when the media kept hammering us over the head with how safe and formulaic Disney is they debut the most ambitious and risk-taking Star Wars film yet.
