Or he knew they were just patronizing him...either way the only ones who would milk Star Wars worse than Lucas is Disney ;)
Well, yeah. I'd milk a $4 billion dollar investment for all its worth, too.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Just bought a ticket to a showing on Fri. $10, not bad at all. Good theater, too. Kinda laughing at all the people who HAD TO BUY A TICKET RIGHT WHEN THEY WENT ON SALE!!!!1!!!!111! ;)

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

I got mine for $8.50 a piece for Thursday so I am laughing at you ;)

I honestly didn't think I'd find a ticket. IF I was reading the purchasing/seating thing right, I got the last one, too, for the showing (11:30am). Paid the surcharge ($1.50) hence the $10 total. Fine with me. :)

Worth not having to try and avoid spoilers.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

I haven't even seen a trailer. About the only thing I know is that Han Solo and Skywalker are in it. That's about it. I want to go in blind and judge on my own.

FTR, I think a week is okay before we start talking spoilers? Or is a separate thread needed for this movie?

I suggest a separate thread.

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Good call.

If this is anything like how Abrams treated Star Trek, it's going to be absolutely outstanding. I'm excited to see it.

So you want this to be the opposite of what Star Wars is supposed to be? :p

And yes definitely a separate thread. If people go into a Star Wars thread they cant whine about spoilers cause they are asking for it :D

Ha. I knew you were going to be the first to reply to that.

Im not sure what you mean though about it being the opposite.

New thread is now active.

Prepare to be shocked when you learn that Chewbacca is really Luke's father ;)

In all seriousness, how busy do y'all think this weekend will be? I've had luck seeing movies at the first showings on Sunday AM and getting smaller crowds... Think places will be a zoo all weekend for this?

It's going to be Lindsey Lohan crazy, stupid busy at the theaters this weekend. That's why I chose the theater I did, it has fewer seats due to having the reclining lounge chairs and assigned seating.

He turned Star Trek into Star Wars...lots of cool explosions and running around but no real plot or any of the philosophy that actually was a part of Star Trek. That is why many Trekkies call it Star Trek in Name Only.

(I didnt mind the reboot, never saw the sequel though it look like crap)

What do you mean no plot that was part of Star Trek? The whole point of that ship going back through time was to throw out the old Star Trek universe and start anew. What did they think would happen, a rehash of all the old storylines? If any fandom out there would understand that nifty time-travel paradox gimmick, it should be the Trekkies.

I don't think they expected a rehash, but more of the same feel. Star Trek was always about a competent ship that had some level of organization and hierarchy among its crew. The new one is more like five main characters who run around on their own doing their own things and somehow the ship doesn't blow up out of incompetence in the process. Which, I can understand, is more like the adventure-ish feel of Star Wars rather than the sci-fi-military feel of Star Trek.

Mind you I'm OK with both new Star Trek movies. There both good for filling two hours, and if I want regular Star Trek there's a few hundred episodes over multiple series to choose from.

Two non-spoiler excerpts from reviews, one a three-star "it's pretty good," the other "it's better than I expected."

Warning: the links go to reviews that do include spoilers.

I suppose the last thing you want to hear at a Rolling Stones concert is, “Ladies and gentlemen, here’s two hours of entirely new material!” Even so, the shamelessness with which “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” replays the franchise’s greatest hits is startling. To put it another way, it’s a satisfying meal — but it’s $200 million worth of leftovers.

Writer-director J.J. Abrams has done an honorable job and steered things away from the those horrid prequels. “The Force Awakens” feels like a genuine “Star Wars” movie, with well-executed battle scenes, light comic touches and a warm feel for its characters.

So much for deadly prequels. “Star Wars” is once again in sequel mode—it’s been so long since the original cast has been on screen that this one could be called a postquel—and the franchise has roared back with full force.

Disney, the new proprietor, and J.J. Abrams, the director, haven’t diluted the appeal of this space opera for the ages. Far from it, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” flatters old and new audiences alike, and straddles generations with aplomb
....
Rarely have age and shining youth been juxtaposed more affectingly, but that’s only one of many moments of grace in a movie that mines its resonant mythology while moving its story ever forward.

Bingo! Star Trek was a character driven series. (especially NexGen) The action was secondary it was the philosophy and plots that drove it. Many Trekkies feel that these movies are 90% action 10% paint by numbers plot. (much like Star Wars :p ) It could have been "Generic Action Movie #1"...
