Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

Time Lapse:

Three friends discover a mysterious machine that takes pictures 24hrs into the future and conspire to use it for personal gain, until disturbing and dangerous images begin to develop.

At times, the dialogue/acting was not the greatest by any means. Very B-movie (and given the budget, understandable). However, love the story and the implications of the "chicken vs egg" arguments. A photo is definitely not all that it appears to be. Recommend, for sure.

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It was so much worse than expected. There was only one good scene in the entire movie and it only lasted some ten seconds. When I was a teenager, my brother, his fiancee and my eventually nephew were living in parents' home and I watched that TV show with my nephew while babysitting him. The movie had so much promise to be corny fun, but Bay just ruined it. The movies from the early 90's were so much better with those guys wearing cheesy costumes. How does Bay continue to get projects?

Read the Eastman/Laird comics as a kid (they were a BIT darker than the cartoon, etc). Movie was cheesy fun. Uh, oh, here comes Bay. I am not even curious as to how bad it is.

The first Transformers movie - I liked it. While I know many people thought it was bad, it fit the feel of the TV show to me. He's done a few good movies over the years, but the stuff in the past 6-7 years have just been horrible. They're earning money based upon being sold on old TV franchises, but there has to be a point at which his name will kill any goodwill the history of the franchises could engender.

The first Transformers, didn't expect much, and got exactly what I expected. A time-killer that didn't want to make me want to shoot myself. But overall, he's terrible. I think he and Adam Sandler have the same agent. ;)

Have you see how much money his movies make? Hate the movie all you want but t made almost $500 million worldwide. If you quadruple your budget you are going to get lots of projects.

We all know the real reason, but dammit, Hollywood, STOP. /pipedream

I get that completely, but I just want society to wise up. Seeing Bay's name as director on a movie should be our insect repellent to mosquitoes and not a bug light. For the sake of all that is good and right in the world, we have to wise up.

Obviously you are in the minority...market forces and all that jazz ;)

Hackers:

Wow. This did NOT age well. Bunch of hackers uncover a devious plot of robbery via computer, etc, blah blah blah. The plot is tired, and the SFX...well, it's basically the next generation of The Lawnmower Man (great story, also aged HORRIBLY). Lots of (now) recognizable names/actors, that's about the only thing that really stands out. Otherwise average at best.

The Kid With The Golden Arm:

Classic kung fu genre. Gold is being transported, and a gang wants to rob the convoy. Loved it, given for what it was (think: all the sound effects for hits/kicks/etc). There were some good action sequences at the end, and equally redonkulous parts of those sequences. I was thoroughly entertained throughout the movie. Great for a late night or weekend afternoon, just to sit back and eat some popcorn.

You really can't get more 90's out of a movie, can you? Saw this on cable a while back and had the same thoughts...

Re: Movie Thread: Grab Some Popcorn, Enjoy The Show

It's not that. It's the SFX, the music (which is borderline 80s style), the clothes....and rollerblades as transportation?

It's a timeless classic that was heavily dated the moment it came out.

The story was so boilerplate. Unless a movie greatly p*es me off by being horrible, I'll watch until the end. I kind of wanted to turn this one off, but it didn't reach that threshold.
